It's so enjoyable looking forward to Friday's story readings. Jesse's pants looking like they were dyed takes me back to my teenage years. Some of us used to actually bleach out different areas of our blue jeans. Also taking the hems out of the bottoms of our pants to make them fringed 😅 We created our own styles. That's why to this day I don't dress in style. We actually had Truant officers and they didn't fool around. It was sad when some kids were sent to juvenile because of school truancy. Family problems... I'm looking forward to next Friday's reading. Wishing y'all a wonderful weekend. Praying and Blessed! 🤗🙏💕🌄

When I was in 7th grade, a bunch of us students got in trouble for misbehaving. Our principal threatened to make us scrub the bathroom floor with a toothbrush. He never followed through with his threat but it scared us enough that we were never that unruly again. I’m sure Jesse will come up with a satisfactory solution to the problem with the students’ drinking and truancy.

My dad (rest his soul), was one of those county school bus drivers. He on the way to school one morning with the students, saw a large watermelon patch. On his way home that afternoon with the students, he stopped the bus, unloaded the students and let them eat their fill. Needless to say they all arrived home late. Calling the school. Parents looking for their children. Dad lost his job the next day, but he had a lot of kids thinking that he was a hero!

Love these stories, Tipper. Good educators are such an integral part of a community and play a huge role in forming values, and a work ethic. Love y'all.

The part about how they got the boys to let go of the old fueds was a great example of wisdom. I lob how close they became after. A lesson their families and others could learn from. I'm really enjoying the stories from this one.

First thing that jumped out was your absolutely lovely blouse! It looks so pretty and the light blue is a wonderful color on you! As always, I am so invested in this book. My dad has become so in love with it that he fully put aside his phone and just listened. When Jesse decided to let those men fight it out, we were both laughing because literally 5 seconds before you said it, I paused the video and said "I bet he's gonna let them actually fight it out. It's what Momma did with me and Elisia(my sister, pronounced E-lee-sha)." Then, yup, it was as brutal and awful as it was 40+ years ago when her and I went after each other. Thank you again, Tipper, for a fun ending to a very rough week. We all appreciate what you are doing. I'll try to convince my poppa to start watching KZbin, if only to connect to your videos. He really enjoys the Friday readings.

Thanks Tipper! I agree they didn’t pay him enough to rent a room. In a way it gave him the opportunity to see the real problem behind the tardiness issue. ❤ love hearing you read! It’s like a friend talking to me.

When I was in elementary school, in North Georgia we had split classes, too. Now that was 50 + years ago. Things change everyday, girls could not wear pants to school there, our boots were usually tall and lined with a warm material. This story brings back memories... Thank you for the readings

This is the part I remember reading years ago! My first job as a public school teacher was in a small town-county school as a head teacher. This required me to teach all day, with a 30 minute break(while students were in Library, music, or P.E.) to do Principal duties. I also had to stay late a lot to perform principal duties. I think this was the reason I identified with Mr. Stuart's story line in this book! Thank you for your reading!

What a teacher. Man-o-man I’d probably go nuts. I commend your Brother, and you for even being inundated by such a vast amount of rascals. Course you had twins maybe that’s how you handled it.❤ I can’t wait to see what comes of this next Friday. I too would not be concerned about his britches. As my mother used to say school is for book learning you don’t waist your time, the teacher’s time, the taxpayers time; or your fellow students time. Or you’ll pick a switch and I’ll tan your hide but good for sure. I never challenged her on that😂. Thanks Tipper I really like this story.

I,too, went to a school that had two grades per room. Mr VanArsdale was principal and seventh and eighth grade teacher. It was a township school in Kirksville, Indiana. I loved going to school there.

Not in Appalachia of course, but I went to a private school run by a church. Many of the teachers, especially male teachers, also held church office. Assistant pastor, youth pastor, music leader, etc, all had teaching positions. The principal himself-- we went through a few of them when I attended. They usually didn't teach any classes, or may have taught one or two classes. My brother, best friend, and I each had some chronic health issues that caused excessive absences, but the school administration worked with us to come up with solutions. For my brother, my parents withdrew him to homeschool him, and he took his GED at 17. For me, I withdrew, with credit for the first semester of my senior year, and then re-enroled the next year for the second semester. My best friend kept up with her school work at home, and was able to attend in person again after a year or so, and graduated on time. One thing that was funny. Chemistry class was just two of us. Our teacher was also the church music leader and heavily involved in the youth ministry, so he often put the class DVD on for us and just... left to do his church-related responsibilities. I imagine he would have gotten in serious trouble considering I'm female and my classmate is male. I assume he trusted us-- not only were we good students, but we also weren't interested in each other, and I'm sure our teacher knew that. But it was definitely awkward lol

Like you, I though who in the world cares if his pants are dyed!!! I asked my Dad if there was a thing about dyed pants?? That just seems so weird and pointless to me. Love the book! I enjoy all your reading. Prayers for you all!

I so enjoy listening about his adjustments and being careful not to offend others. I was kinda wild in high school but managed my grades well and stayed out of trouble for the most part. But...I could write a note and my moms signature to hand in. 😮😊 I didn't abuse the situation though. It was more important to me to graduate.

I wonder if Mr. Hinton knew what was going on at night on Main St., but didn't know how to handle it, so he used the "pant discoloration issue" as a way to get Jesse to move into the hotel, knowing that Jesse would then see for himself what the students were up to all night. I actually think it turned out better that way, vs Mr. Hinton tattling. That way Jesse could formulate a plan of action on his own, and not have to out Mr. Hinton. Those are tricky situations. Maybe Mr. Hinton will redeem himself down the road. He seems to really care for Jesse, and wanted to prevent him from being let go. Another great read. Thank you! 🌷

Tipper, the problem between the two football students wanting to hurt each other, kinda reminds me of the famous feud between the Hadfields and McCoys...bitterness and hate that had gone on for years. It can destroy a community.

Hi Tipper my mom and I love your book club. I had a different view of the Board member speaking to Jesse about his clothes. I think he knew the people of the town well, and even though he explained this as the townspeople being particular about clothes, it came out that there was a rowdy drunk culture running through them. I think he didn't want Jesse to step wrong due to his clothing. The board member was kind to give him a clue to what gossip was circulating. The gossipping people were likely more dangerous and equally emotionally immature as the high school students. There was no police to call for help. My dad explained that the sheriff might come by a week later to look in on trouble. You had to be proactive to avoid trouble and persuade people not to turn on you, and Jesse states this is his problem to solve. My mother still is very concerned that she might offend people that would endanger at her age 98 1/2. She has a set of personal skills that exist in the mountains, I believe, for this reason. No one is going to come save you from troubled people, so make sure they don't see you as a problem. Your friends are all you have to protect you.

They take absences seriously because they do not get funds. As a parent I will decide thank you very much ..when my kid misses school. My rules first. We did not need doctors to decide our children are sick or need a break. My dad took us out for 3 weeks to go to Ireland. Imagine trying that now? I could be tardy whenever. Heck we also could smoke if we had a smoking pass.

am I remembering right--didnt he and his students from one of the other schools be out til past midnight sometimes hunting or whatever but still made it to school on time....those kids had better work ethics and accountability where as this school had a large group with obviously no accountability or ethics otherwise they would make it to school even if they were out late---of course I agree it must be the mix of booze that was biggest contributor......really enjoying this book (all your books of choice to read to your viewers)
