You know what the sad irony is about this scene? This is probably one of the times Rusty could take JJ to school on things. Rusty's experience with the Guild wrote chapters in their book. He knows how to play the game with Monarch. He knows when to not escalate. JJ is going about this all wrong, Rusty could have rubbed his twin's face in it and yet Rusty will never know of this moment. Can't enjoy the one time he would have been the JJ in the moment.

@0hvist10 жыл бұрын
actually, a GCI-Approved supervillain CAN kill their guild-designated archenemy that they were screened for and approved by the Guild: so long as it's not on the first day of the job, Monarch got in trouble FIVE TIMES for killing his arches just because they weren't Rusty Venture on the first day. Other rules stipulate that you cannot arch someone if they have a doctors appointment on the day you're arching said person, and you cannot arch someone while either one or both individuals are present on "Hallowed Ground" (I.E.: a Church or place of major religious significance) as said by Brock Samson while attending a funeral. Pulling a Section 8 is when you're aggression levels can allow you to arch someones' family included and apparently it too falls underneath the afforementioned "First Day Arching Rule" according to Dr. Girlfriend about not killing the Arch or the Nemesis in a conflict on Day One.

You know as much as we all love the monarch and I obviously still wanted him to survive this it's really only his own mix of luck and J.J's lack of knowledge of his enemy at the point as to how he survived his encounter. Like yeah generally you aren't suppose to go murdering your antagonist but I feel that's much more enforced by the guild when you're a higher level (which it's debatable how much of Monarch was at the time considering it's only after this encounter he's even legally allowed to arch Dr. Venture who wasn't even a prime arch UNTIL the start of season 6) and that may be waved when the antagonist has offed previous assigned targets without question. Now we know Dr. Dewgong is revealed to have survived having his head blown up but in "Tears of A Sea Cow" Mrs. The Monarch points out this is a problem that has happened before which even this episode points out as well so quite honestly JJ was well within his right to kill the Monarch. Again we don't want that to happen but he could of if he knew all the facts at this point.

This is probably the only thing I really dislike about this show. The whole "Guild handbook says you can't do this" thing really ruins a lot of things for me. Instead of them escaping in some cool way they just play the guild rule book card. They do this a bunch of times and it's lame. I thought it was appropriate for when the Monarch had Hank and Dean hanging upside down over a river and Dean needed to be cut down because his balls hurt. Other than that I hate when they do the guild rule book thing.

+lasoogneypubes you're missing like the entire point of the series. Its supervillians and heroes if it was a semi-legitimized occupation and they had actual lives. Without the guild and OSI and all the rules, it's just a johnny quest spoof with insanely good writing and deep, empathetic characters that grow and evolve every season.
@ElectariumTunic9 жыл бұрын
+lasoogneypubes Just as +DirtyFrigginHarry said. According to the creators, this serie takes place "during the death of the space age" AKA today. While all the villains and arch-enemies mostly worked solo in the 50's and 60's and could do what ever they wanted; today they have organized large trade unions. The Guild of Calamitous Intent is the largest and mightiest trade union. They have many rules regarding the well-being of their members and obligations towards non-members and arch-rivals. One of these rules are that your arch-rival is allowed to see a therapist during "business hours" without the arch-nemesis interfering with said meeting. This mimic the real world where an employee in the 50's and 60's didn't have to bother about "silly things" like their employees' health, but today there are a lot of rules and regulations regarding peoples well-being on the work-place. This is the reason I like the rule book so much. You can't do all the cool and nasty things you could before, because the world today is not the "arch-villain vs. adventurer/super agent"-world of the space age.
@NyQuilDonut8 жыл бұрын
DirtyFrigginHarry No I'm not.. I've seen every single episode. I just think it's lame how often they use it. It's used a lot more often later in the series which makes me think they're out of good ideas.. Which they are. I'm aware that they have strict rules that arches and scientists (or protagonists) abide by and I think that's funny when they make the right joke about it.
@xxDrain7 жыл бұрын
I just think it makes the whole thing more realistic. I like it.
@SovereignStatesman6 жыл бұрын
lasoogneypubes It's a parody on why everyone doesn't just kill each other rather than "take them prisoner." For example, in the first Johnny Quest episode, "Mystery of the Lizard Men," the villains are killing people left and right with a giant laser; so then the good guys get captured, but they're taken prisoner rather than just being killed; and so they're able to escape and beat the bad guys. So the only way that would make sense, is if there was some rule book both sides were following.
