Thanks for the awesome review Jax! We need more GX 550 Overtrail trim videos. Shared your video with some family of mine, all of whom are seriously considering this vehicle. Love your approach, thoroughness and detail, definitely subscribing and this is the first video of yours I’ve seen!

Nice review! Have had my OT+ since July (9k miles). No regrets to date…loving it! I could nit-pick on a few things but no deal breakers if I had to do it all over again. MPGs / Premium fuel is my biggest negative IMO. Getting 15-17 city, but got 21 hwy on a NY to FL round trip road trip.

The most expensive LC 250 is equivalent to the GX550 OT [not +] model at around $72k……the problem is finding that specific GX trim, but because the power train and suspension is superior I agree with this review that the GX is superior to the LC, for close to the same price.
@CJ-rk5eg2 күн бұрын
I have owned my GX550 OT+ since August and now with 7000 miles I can offer this. I like the vehicle very much, and agree with your video comments that its powertrain and suspension [eKDSS and adaptive] are superior to the LC250. I test drove the LC250 and GX550 back to back on the same day. And my family quickly disliked the LC but quickly liked the GX’s ride. On the other hand, the GX deserves real sturdy leather, not the fake stuff, especially in the OT+. Also, the driver’s seat is not supportive enough, and the fake leather is already showing signs of being stretched. [And I’m not over 200lbs!] I’ve enjoyed two prior Lexus products so I know exactly what leather is possible in their vehicles. My other disappointment is that the doors feel “tinny” when they close, again unlike prior Lexus products. All that being said I do not regret the purchase, and had I not actually needed a vehicle urgently, I would have waited until the next model year to perfect it. Again, thanks for the real world review.

Overall, what is your impression of the Nuluxe quality? Does it seem cheap compared to leather?
@CJ-rk5eg6 сағат бұрын
@ Yes it feels cheap compared to real Lexus leather . After sitting in the drivers seat and then getting out, the seat bottom is stretched and wrinkles a bit. Seems to return to original shape but for the price point and trim level, I believe the GX has been “de-contented” as well as the seat design being inferior . The front seats bottoms are flat feeling, especially after a long drive. No complaint from the kids about the back seats though [yet].

@CJ-rk5eg That's a shame, as the OT+ costs over $80k. The GX had been on my list, but I've been waiting for the 2025 model year.

Nice review. Testing in spring 2025. Would you buy this over an x5? Why no panoramic sunroof? I love how lexus claims they have smaller engine for emissions now but the car only gets 15 mpg? Doesn’t matter. Gas prices gonna drop a lot. I’m either buying this, x5 or new re design Audi q5. Nice review. 👍🏻👍🏻
@jax107910 күн бұрын
Thanks! The BMW X5 is pretty fantastic. Ultimately it kind of depends on what you want to do with it: driving, performance, highway blasts? BMW no question. Off-road capability and FAR more advanced off-road features? Lexus GX Overtrail no question. Lexus GX 550 luxury vs loaded BMW X5? We'd go BMW. What we'd spend our own money on? Lexus GX 550 Overtrail+ because we want the off-road ability. Hope that helps somewhat. Let us know what you decide!

@@jax1079 Thanks for reply. I’d go with “standard” X5. Not sure. I had an X5 years ago and when new thought it was the best car ever. Then the problems started to pop up little over 50k miles on it. Sensors replaced, oil leak, on and on. Expensive to repair/replace stuff because it seemed like I could ONLY bring the car to BMW which gets $. When I went to trade in my X5 for an RX I could not believe how much the car depreciated in value. I have to buy/finance my cars due to high mileage driving/sales. I just dont want a car that’s cumbersome to lug around all day.

@ I work in a European auto shop as my day job handling marketing and media (@wolfpen_media) and I definitely wouldn't spend my own money on a German SUV because we drive a LOT in our family (commuting, KZbin work, volleyball tournaments, etc). I remind people often that we positively review many vehicles during week long tests, but if you look at what we spend our own money on, it's Toyota and Lexus. 😉👍🏻

Nice review. I have the GX550 Overtrail. Not the plus. It rides and drives as good as you report in the video. If you don't need the massage seats and mrk lev you can compete with the land cruiser in price. Mine was just 74K. most notable things you give up are memory seats and mirrors.

Nice review… thanks! .. I went and looked but have not driven yet, I will say I was underwhelmed by the bland interior and lack of color inside for the price …. I’ve recently looked at a GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate and was blown away with the interior in comparison to the GX. I also test drove GMC and was very impressed… not what I expected… 6.2l v8 was smooth and powerful and similar gas mileage as GX.. kinda like it right now better than the GX. Was not looking for a pickup. I also recently saw the land cruiser, plastic fantastic, they are pricey, cannot justify a high end optioned out land cruiser buy over a GX, they should have put the v6 in it…. I will test drive the GX.. I know this is a GX video sorry, but what are your thoughts on the gmc ultimate compared to this GX? Thx
@jax107910 күн бұрын
No worries! Thanks for watching. I actually prefer the way the GM trucks drive over the competition; however, the Lexus will drive smoother simply because it's enclosed cargo area and adaptive dampers give it a huge leg up on a pickup truck platform. The updated GMC interiors are certainly excellent and more stylish than the GX (but the GX has excellent build quality). You might be surprised by how much more manageable the GX feels in comparison to something like a full-sized pickup. Let us know what you end up with! Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
@mvubu682310 күн бұрын
Comparing apples and oranges. Denali is MASSIVE Land Cruiser standards and Lexus build quality is tough to beat.
@ktpinnacle6 күн бұрын
This is a Swiss army knife vehicle. It can, and deserves to, get dirty. Unlike German varieties that are more sport- or status-oriented (face it, no one buying a G550 at twice the price gets it dirty). The interior has no swathes of piano black to get scratched up as you clean it from getting dirty. Yet it has a luxury element for enjoying during the large majority of motoring. As you said, it's right sized. And it should be reliable, unlike the JLR competitors that are immensely attractive. Can't wait to get an OT+ to replace my Yukon, which has grown a foot since mine was produced. Just too long and huge for empty nesters.

Our roads and Highways are so crappy whereI live you need an suv just to get around. 🤨🤔

Love all of their products, and I won't consider buying a single one of them again until they solve the fact that a 3rd grader can steal them. There's no point, it's just a hassle. As much as I like them. It's that bad in central Canada.
@jax107910 күн бұрын
Yikes! That sounds awful. We'd be happy to welcome our neighbors to the north in Atlanta. 😉👍🏻

@ Yeah, the whole Toronto-Ottawa-Montreal corridor is under assault by organized crime. They just need to get the cars to the port of Montreal and they are overseas. It’s getting crazy. The government is starting to do something, but not fast enough. Our port controls are weak. We need to follow the US model. They say the same dynamic could not play out through American ports due to the security protocols. It’s ridiculous. We’re like sitting ducks up here.

@jax107910 күн бұрын
We actually have! I actually drove one on a road trip from Atlanta to Nashville and then some hard core off-roading. The Bronco Raptor is absolutely a different animal, but it's super easy to live with and still one of our favorite trucks. Check out the video and let us know what you think!

@ I am considering changing to the GX Overtrail + but I am on the fence. I do more daily driving than anything.
@jax107910 күн бұрын
@ The plus adds some choice options, but is largely the same off-road. We were so impressed by the everyday drivability of the Overtrail trims that we'd definitely choose the over the luxury trims.

The proactive driving assist is why your mileage is so low. Turning that off will give you about +2mpg.
@jax107910 күн бұрын
That's an interesting point. We might need to do some testing on that to see how it affects different vehicles.

@jax10799 күн бұрын
Having driven the GX 460 numerous times, I find it odd that you don't think the GX 550 drives as well. It's superior in pretty much every way. And to compare it to a Jeep is kind of silly

@@jax1079 interior is very plasticky especially for the luxury plus trimm; also no KDSS on the non-OT trims is a sign of cost cutting.V6tt has More power but less refined than the v8; still has crappy gas mileage and will not be as reliable long term as the v8. Some good, some bad. For this price range and the limited off-roading and towing I do the X5 is a far better choice FOR ME. YMMV.
@jax10799 күн бұрын
@ You make a good point: at the end of the day, it's what's best for the buyer. For most people, something like an X5 will likely make them much happier, so it makes more sense in that regard. The best value option would probably be to buy a used Lexus GX 460 and keep it for a decade. I still like that idea myself 😂
