My dad, 3 brothers and I used to play at High Rocks in the 70's. It was closed for years, but we used to get in at the top and get chased out some times. The little house was still there, but very run down. It was much more overgrown and the rocks were treacherous and slippy. There was no station at High Rocks, but the railway went to Groombridge and was a proper commuter line. Such a big part of my childhood along with Happy Valley, Dingly Dell and Toad Rock.

I’m amazed how green England is in the winter. Your winters don’t seem bad at all.

The sky goes grey, the temperature hovers between 2 and 7 degrees C, and it snows maybe a week a year. It's not too harsh but it goes on and on for what seems like an eternity.

I am now 86 years old, I was born and raised in the nearby village of Rusthall and believe it or not these rocks were our playground, no health and safety in those days. The old remains of the hut was actually used as a tea room in the summer months when the Rocks were opened to the public and an entrance fee charged. We knew how to get in for nothing. I note that you did not find “ the bell rock” this is a rock that when hit with a heavy stick in a certain place would ring like a bell. HAPPY DAYS!

I bet it was great fun for you back in those days.

The high rocks near Tunbridge Wells is one of my favourite places, I like the way the roots of the trees wrap around the large boulders and the way the trunks of these trees twist with their contorted branches, it gives the place an atmosphere of other worldliness, like a place of witches and pagan rituals.

I am thinking of moving there but it's way too expensive to rent. Is Tonbridge cheaper? Thinking of going there instead as I heard it was cheaper.

Not a bad price for the cuppa ☕️ , and you get a biscuit. Win , win , chicken 🐓 dinner. Do they offer free refills on the coffee ☕️? Even if they don’t, still a bargain.

No refills unfortunately 😭

i wouldn't bother with smith and western. went there one time after a major hankering for a steak. cook better ones myself to be honest. was not impressed at all.

Also, the Smith and Weston isn’t a hotel. It’s a cowboy kitchen. I know that because I work there as a part-time cleaner.

I live in Honbury Tunbridge Wells. It’s really cool there as well as Calvary park the shopping centre but be careful. There’s a lot of chavs and they’ll nick your camera if they see it
