We failed... now we need to figure out a plan B 🤔

Yesterday didn't go as planned so now we need to figure out a plan B... we're thinking that we should sheath the roof with ultra thin aluminum instead of chicken wire. The thought process is that we could glue the headliner material to the aluminum and then staple each aluminum panel to the wooden framework. Once each section is applied, we could lay the insulation, padding, and material on top without it sagging between each crossmember... thoughts? 🤔

You are missing one important thing from the guys with woodworking knowledge as they keep recommending belt-sanders or orbitals. When you sand with that grinder you are "cutting" across the grain and when you stain that, it will look horrible when it brings out the scratches across the grain.

I've worked with wood for 45 years and it would be helpful for him to look at some of the quality comments offered by some obviously talented people in the comments. But he has shown it's hard for him to receive input. I wish him and Jolene the best and I give him kudos for trying things, but one thing I have learned over the years, even with million dollar estates, I have exposed myself to the knowledge of others to refine my approach or to verify my choices. Seems challenging for him to do that

the roof curves in 3 dimensions, therefore you can not measure it directly from a one way tape, You need descriptive geometry or approximate method to measure curved area accurately. Good luck.

A rigid flat piece of aluminum (cardboard, paper, steel, plastic, etc) will not just naturally form a compound curve shape. Do you know anything about Geometry and the properties of materials? If you want the wood to be visible from the inside, ask a professional, take your time, work precisely, and not just cut, grind and sand without a plan in a hurry, to later cover up the faults with fiberglass.

Again! You can staple the fabric down onto the frame and then on top of that you can have foam and material for the roof.this will give you the look inside the car and outside.
