Something about seeing the husk of that tardigrade evokes, a deep dark oblivion. Like the Nostromo visiting a derelict hulk. Scavengers cast to the infinity. So tiny amongst the vast expanse, seeking prey to empty. Thats some dark souls ish Hank.

I hope one day you guys can do a video on Tropical Freshwater Aquarium microbes. Just watching this taught me about a disease that, though not widely-discussed where I live, is likely the cause of yearly Guppy deaths in stores. And it being a tenacious little protozoan, the Tetrahymena, explains how it wouldn't respond to any available treatments.

Amazing photography! Micro photography has come a long way. I got hooked on tiny things as a tiny thing myself- someone gave me a microscope for my eighth birthday, it was a revelation. Blood featured often!

I never have fed microbes blood, but one of the first things we did when I got a microscope as a kid was to use a diabetic finger prick to look at blood cells.

Aah- so that's what I found in my aquarium months ago and couldn't figure out! It looked like the husk of maybe a rotifer, but it was full of tumbling exuberant ciliates. Thank you for helping me to solve one tiny mystery.

OK I haven't watched all the way through yet, but my burning question is... since these tiny organisms have no nerve endings, do they not know there is another organism burrowing inside of them to drain them of their life juice?

At this level the signals passed via chemicals. Btw, neurons are passing their signals between each other as chemicals too. So it's the same all the way down

We have an old well in our house that is over a hundred years old and stock ponds in a dry area that are also very old. The stock ponds only fill up a short time during the summer, I have always found some neat creatures in them. I wonder what kind of microbes could be found in the well and ponds.
