Olexa if I had a video game for every roguelike you introduced me to that featured a deceased main character in a purgatory, where halfway through the game you fight a fakeout final boss version of yourself, only for a few runs later you find out that it isn't actually the true final boss, and the actual final boss is more of a representation of what's keeping them still there, I'd have Revita and Brutal Orchestra. I wouldn't have The Binding of Isaac because I knew about it before finding your channel but I think it fits this description too. and honestly they're all bangers

I finally saw some of the dude's paintings the creatures of the game are based on, and yep, it's pretty much insanity I loved seeing that the knife ear is very much accurate.

@@GalactaKiller Actually quite a lot of Bosch's work is featured in the game including the triptych of the Temptation of Saint Anthony. If you're up for it you could have fun looking through Bosch's paintings and you might notice some familiar objects. Not shop items though, those are based on WWII memorabilia.

What an ending. Wow. So, putting all the pieces together: Nowak is probably his name. He was a painter. Based on “Bosch’s” statements at the beginning, he succeeded in mortally wounding himself by cracking his skull open somehow. Probably jumping off something. But that’s why he tells you that some one killed you and it ends up being yourself in real life. My guess is that Nowak is the outer person and “Bosch” is the inner. “Bosch” sounds like he hates himself and wants to hurry up and end things. Nowak wants to find something that he doesn’t know exists still. I guess the painter, in his dying moments, invented a whole imaginary world full of crazy things mostly based on the real Bosch’s art. And, from that experience, found the inspiration to paint something in his own blood- something he was proud of AND something that was only for him to see. He’s possibility dissatisfied with how others viewed his art while alive, and he was pushed to this limit because of the response from others toward his art. He was probably always struggling to make something that others viewed as masterful and beautiful, and this is the first time he ever painted something just for himself to admire. What a freaky story. I love it.

Your analysis looks on point! But there is one thing that I want to point out: I do not think Nowak was a painter, in the entrance cut scene to hard mode where Nowak talks to the skeleton by the fire he mentioned cutting fish with his father and hating it- I think that was his job in real life, a labor worker that cuts fish. Since he mentioned that he hate cutting fish, I speculate that painting is his hobby/passion that keeps him going, and Bosch, the painter, is his inspiration and someone he admire. It is likely that he found his life as a labor worker to be unfufilling and that his art is imperfect abd ultimately meaningless since he is not a professional and no one really gets to see his art, which is why Bosch, the demon that represents inner self, wants trick Nowak into ending it all. I think the whole game is a representation of Nowak's inner struggle of finding meaning in his life and coming to terms with the fact that his art doesn't need to be perfect to have meaning, it just needed to be real to him, even at the last moments of his life, since his skull is literally split open.

I have just replayed the game recently myself after writing this (Olexa’s series got me to buy it) and it definitely is a little hazy because he says he doesn’t clearly remember BUT He does say he would cut fish open with his dad for a living and he hated it. Could be that he was a struggling painter with a day job that he despised, and he may have tried to sell his art as a job instead but nobody cared about what he would create. I also have no specific idea of what all of these guys represent. Nowak seems to be a representation of the body. Bosch seems to be a representation of his mind? And Osman is a strange one. Got him as my first hardmode boss, and he seems to represent something primal inside of Nowak. That desire to keep going? Or maybe the desire to die? I’m not really sure. It’s hard to figure out all their motivations because like… Bosch starts off wanting them to just die, Nowak doesn’t realize he’s even killing himself at first. Then they both say that they have a life to live and it’s not over which seems to be their goal but then Osman comes in and tries to stop them… but, by stopping them, he’s sending them back to the beginning of the loop to continue wandering forever. But he also is the person who forces the characters to realize that they aren’t real which instantly kills them during the fight against him. And Nowak and Bosch’s end goal seems to be to find the inspiration to paint something for himself one final time based on the ending, or maybe it WAS to die and find peace. Maybe they don’t have a real goal other than escaping the mental world they created in their dying moments one way or another. But I say it’s hard to figure out that last part because their motives, goals, actions, words, and outcomes don’t really match up. By losing in the game they’re living forever. By winning the game, they die. Osman seems like the primal instinct that refuses to die which is why he says they will reject everything, but also like… he forces you to come to terms with the fact that it’s all fake? Nowak and Bosch say that their “lives aren’t over” but killing Osman ends them? That parts all a bit hazy LOL

Wow you really didn't deserve that win lol Me: Oh that boss is terrible, he does so much damage & can just 1-shot a party member, but wait Shield bro can tank his damage & reroll the 1-shot... 30 seconds later... Why is shield bro dead? Well, still fine. Won't always be able to attack, just makes the fight a little longer. Not a big deal. Flowerbro is upgraded, and can out heal anything this boss can throw. I like to think of myself as a pretty smart person. I've played a bunch of tactical RPGs and card games and roguelikes. But, between the pigments, status effects, timeline, enemy attributes, and the punishing difficulty, trying to process all of this just hurts my head. I would rather play Darkest Dungeon or spend hours grinding on Seventh Saga than to subject myself to this digital sadomasochism.
