Another excellent video, two wonderful time capsules of a bygone era. It'd be a real shame if the first building was demolished, I think it'd make a fantastic museum. Hopefully it can be saved

Excellent video, as usual. The irony is, I bet one train of coal produced more electricity than all those PV panels, especially on the day you filmed them, lol. RIP Mr Fox.

Brilliant video. . The UK mining industry went the same way, all the communities abandoned. . .

When I see videos from old mines, I try to imagine what it looked like when the mine was in operation. I've worked in a coal mine in Germany (closed 2005/2006). It was a beautiful and interesting time, to work 850-1300m deep under the earth's surface. It is very sad that this era is over. We say 'Glück-Auf' for greeting and farewell ('have luck' - have luck to find coal or other minerals or come back to the surface safely)

I'm quite interested in the German coal mining industry so I was just wondering but at which mine were you active in?

@@ForgottenBuildings Hello Jessey. Thank you for your comment and your interest. I worked underground in the 'Lohberg/Osterfeld' coal mine as a locksmith / metal worker. In just 15 years I worked in several areas. After my apprenticeship, I spent several years on a tunneling machine at a depth of around 900-950m. We also assembled and disassembled the 90t machine several times. After that I've looked at the tracks. The rock around the tunnel moves and the ground swells. Then you have to lift the tracks, straighten everything underneath and put the tracks back again. After that I worked in explosion protection. I had to fill water barriers or build new ones, often down to -1300m. Sometimes we had to spray powder or a chemical substance to bind the fine coal dust. Finally I was assigned to a piece of conveyor belt, checking, repairing or keeping it clean. Then I'm retraining as an IT specialist because the mine was closed at the end of 2005. Today, not much of the once large facility can be seen. Only one winding tower (of two), a workshop building and the administration building are still visible. There is a small park with a lake, new houses, restaurants, a retirement home and new industry. Take care Jessey, tot ziens, tot de volgende keer
