Wow what a great explore Today
From 1959 to 1963, North Luffenham was the base for PGM-17 Thor intermediate range ballistic missiles, operated by No. 144 Squadron RAF. The Thor missile site was listed as a Grade II* building in 2011.
When the RAF vacated the base, the gates from the main entrance were donated to the village of North Luffenham. The gates which bear the station badge were later erected at the entrance to the village's recreation ground.
The station was taken over by the British Army and renamed St George's Barracks in 1998
this is our explore , this is what we found.
thanks for watching.
See you in the Movies

We got there arriving at a place called butt ln 😂 parked up and just walked in no issues only hampered by a little bit of British weather but loved it , seeing this stuff up close honestly was like a movie set just looking at them was great but to climb over them was amazing 👍🍻

Not a tank. You were spot on stating it was an FV 432 APC. Not everything with tracks is automatically a 'tank'.

Thanks for clarifying I always believed they come into the category of light tank / armoured personnel carriers

@@RobwithScoobyScooby They all can be generally referred to as 'armoured vehicles'. A 'tank'... even a 'light tank' needs to meet certain criteria in order to receive that title. First, a tank is a fighting vehicle whereas an APC is generally a battlefield taxi used to transport troops into battle under a modicum of protection. A tank will be armoured, tracked and armed with a gun greater than a machine gun. The main armament is the key determining factor. It typically serves 2 purposes: killing other tanks or blowing up non tank things - usually the former. So, a tank is essentially a big offensive gun that can be brought into action under the protection of armour and with the mobility provided by tracks. However, be careful not to confuse a tank with a self-propelled gun like the Brit Abbot. These are mobile artillery. Sure, it's a big gun on tracks and under armour... but artillery is employed completely differently. Tanks will be at the forefront aggressively supporting the infantry and killing other tanks while SPGs move into position to the rear of the fighting and drop high explosive rounds on the battlefield from a high angle.

Also... not a bulldog. It looks like a Mk2 or Mk2/1 K60, the turret is rare though.

@@RobwithScoobyScooby yes great piece of kit, been around since the late 60s and it is still in service, although mainly as ambulance, command post, recovery roles now rather than APC.

Not a Seaking, try Wessex, on second thoughts and having a second look, Whirlwind, looking at the tail boom, As the video carries on I can see that it is definitely a Westland Whirlwind (RAF Slang a Whirlygig)
