We Found My Grandpa's Old Lures! Will They Still WORK?

After over a decade, a box of antique lures has been found! These lures date back to the '50s and '60s and probably haven't hit the water in over 50 years. So today we are taking an up-close look at the antique lures from Heddon, Rebel, C.C.B., and more. There are some insane designs in this set and some extremely unique lures that I'm excited to learn more about. The question is... Should we fish them???

As a kid, I used a bunch of these baits -- Heddons and Creek Chubs mostly -- and they caught bass, pike and walleyes a lot better than most stuff I use today. That was a long time ago, so maybe there were just more fish around.

About 2 months ago, I fished some of my grandpa's lures like the Hawaiian Wiggler (circa 1920 or so.) They were loving it. It's fun to do this sometimes! Great video concept.

It’s oxidation from the lead in the paint. Yes it is toast!

That jointed bait looks like a Rapala. We called them a broke back Rapala. They are made of balsa wood which is super buoyant.

OH man what a haul! I dont have any old baits like that from my Dad but I bought a guys full load. 4 boxes 5 rods 2 nets and a crap ton of tackle. most of what you have there he had in there plus a few knives, tools and grease. Those no name lures I was told killed all fish back in the day not just dinks but massive pike and walleyes.

The coating on the lure looks like efflorecents commonly found in masonry work. Though I don't think that applies here,lol. Amazing collection of vintage baits, and I agree, one and done. They deserve to be as good once as they ever was. 🎶 🎵

Sir, I don't know if anyone has identified the top water lure with four small treble hooks, revolving prop on the front-end of a rounded body, and a silver/black scale finish yet.It is the "legendary" fishing lure, the Helin Fishcake. That's right, Fishcake. It was produced by the Hellin Company. This is the makers of the real legendary Flatfish Lure. The Fishcake lure was popular with fisherman in the northeastern part of the US during the 1950's.Those northern fisherman that used the Fishcake Lure for top water fishing has some exciting fishing adventures, using this bait.

Really love your videos man. Have been watching since early this year and I must say you really helped get me into fishing. I spent nearly every weekend in the summer on the water and much of the spring and fall (so far). I'm looking to upgrade from a spinning setup to a baitcaster set up and I know it will take time but i'm determined to learn. Just curious if you have recommendations for quality reels and rods as I really don't know what i'm looking for. Not looking to cheap out but don't want to spend a ton of money either. Perhaps entire set ups in the $300 range. Want a decent "all around rod" to start with and something that I won't want to upgrade very quickly. Would love to hear your recommendations. Keep the videos coming!

Those hooks that you can't change there is a way cut the hook and then put split rigs on than the new hook
