That was brilliant! Found out some stuff about it... the bridge and ha ha are listed as is the folly (the caves/grotto?) . Before the present buildings (1960's) there was a large mansion (15 bedrooms), pleasure grounds, walled kitchen garden, coach house & stables. There were also several cottages ,farm buildings, malt houses with residences, stone quarry, blacksmith's forge, hope and fruit gardens, 425 acres of pasture and arable land making up the estate. A fire destroyed most of the mansion in the 1940's but apparently the cellars still exist under the current buildings. The past owners seemed to have been a nice bunch.. in the 1840's the owner distributed "a liberal quantity of beef, potatoes, ale & etc" to each of his workers every Christmas. The head of the last family to own it came from nothing, built his own company up and treated his staff far better than most employers do now. What an amazing place with an amazing history- Thank you x

This is awesome. I'm from England but live in New Zealand now. This is what I miss. History, and finding things from the past. You never know what you are going find. There's none off that here. Well not very much. Anything really old is natural history. This exploration reminds me of an episode of A Passion for Angling, where they sneak into to an centuries untouched, overgrown garden of a manor house estate. Catching massive old carp in ponds and the flooded landscape gardens. So this is really fun for me to watch this kind of English urban exploration. I really miss it.

I can't get over how beautiful the stone wall, the abandoned bridge, and especially that fallen railing covered in moss is! Would love to photograph that! That's a Ha-Ha (or Park Pale) at 06:40 Primarily to keep deer (and people) out, but designed so they can get out if they do get in. The old stone underground section is either a Victorian Grotto (around 150 years old) or medieval tunnels (400-500 years old). I'd assume the Ha-Ha was built during the same period.

I got the impression the cave was a bit of a grotto - Just a frivolous bit of fun. I built something similar in my old garden, only one eighth this size, but with stained glass and a roof made of wire netting and cement with lots of old half-bottles to let the light in. It had a barbie in the centre and seating around. A couple of years of work but fun.

Any history on this place? Are those tunnels part of a Victorian folly, or actually old old? I think its a folly and meant to look older than it is. But is there any info about the estate and the building & grounds? Like how long has it been abandoned? When was it in service and what exactly for? Physical therapy and rehab? but what's the giant tower for then? What was it originally for? Cheers heaps.
