My son was a toddler when my sister-in-law rented our downstairs from us. John loved her malamute, Sadie. She loved us, too. Every night my SIL and boyfiend went out, Sadie would come up to our place and just sit at my feet, after checking on the baby. They are such sweet creatures and, very protective. I lost my baby who had cushing’s last year. He made it to 15! I also had my baby come up negative for cushings before he was finally diagnosed. But as things continued to progress my vet was sure and we dove deeper and confirmed. The medication is difficult to get right but it made a huge difference for Harley. So happy your vet did a longer test.

One of our labradors was diagnosed with Cushings after the eight hour test, at our brilliant vet hospital. That was in 2013. He was on medication until about three months before he passed away from a different issue. I hope Phil has relief from this and he heals.

I have been where you are, and I know your frustration. My Akita suffered for years with thyroid issues and digestive issues, which I learned how to treat properly/successfully later in his life. Vets are people too, and they learn through experience, just like us. It's fantastic that you have this channel to educate folks - we all have learned from Phil's experience and journey with this disease. I thrilled you finally have an answer (yay!) and I am hopeful he starts to feel better soon! Hopefully your vet will monitor his medication and bloodwork frequently, as inappropriate dosages of his meds can push him the other way into Addison's disease (which Dr. Internet says is worse. Yikes.). You are a fantastic advocate for his health and well-being. Seriously - Top Tier Dog Parents. Thank you for what you do!

Don't blame yourselves at all for not knowing about certain tests or anything else. It's not your job to know everything medical - that's what the doctors/vets are supposed to know. As much as we all love Phil with any amount of fur, I do hope this will finally halt or even reverse his hair loss.
