In 1977, I worked for a sand and gravel company that was contracted to clean out a late 1800's ditch that had filled with sand. We wre running the sand we excavated through a screening plant. Along with rocks of all sizes, old bottles would come down the overburden chute. In a week of work, I collected over a hundred bottles, from tiny medicine bottles up to large whisky bottles.Ny boss got pissed at me because I was so focused on saving those bottles before rocks coming out of the screening plant could break them.

The Veronica spring bottle came from Santa Barbara California which is where I was born. My family runs 5 generations deep here. My father and I used to dig the dump just behind their building in the creek years ago. The bottles come in many sizes but the one you found is the largest whole one I’ve ever found. The big ones were always broken. It’s almost impossible to dig here now because I get run off most dumps by angry land owners.

He was the # 1 race car driver. His name was James T Brasher but went by as T Bone or Bones Brasher. I’m just thrilled you found that. I’m really looking forward to the continuing of this video. @randywilkerson48742 жыл бұрын
I do this in the months when the air temp and water temp in creeks is very different. Carrying a bucket to collect in the creeks
@jacobkuykendall93252 жыл бұрын
@@randywilkerson4874 perhaps I should specify. I meant when you are digging a specific dump and know the temp might Crack it.
@randywilkerson48742 жыл бұрын
@@jacobkuykendall9325 I haven't seen water used while digging. I have seen ppl Leaving a bottle down in a deeper hole and letting it adjust slowly and keeping them out of the sun. You may even cover it with some loose dirt to insulate it a bit. A slow temp adjustment is the goal. I imagine there are several ways to achieve that
@afre33982 жыл бұрын
When you polish an old bottle in the polish machine. Is it desired to leave some patina on the bottle? kind of not polish them to mirror finish. Like you do with drinking glass made out of broken bottles. As they are more utility articles, not antiques per se
