our rescue pup lived for years in Mexico under similar conditions, chained to tree. Today she sleeps in our bed and wakes every morning to full body tummy massages and cuddles before prancing down with her dad for brekkie and a dash around the yard .... then on to a day of play and lounging, or watching TV sleeping on dad's lap or curled under my desk, keeping me safe lol .... she;s a princess now and she knows it LOL

The problem with that is, if the government gives Takis support ($$), they will want to have some kind of control in or dictate what he does with his shelter. You don't want the government involved. What the government should do is ensure the laws are being adhered to and the people of Greece 'learn' what the laws are and treat their animals in accordance with those laws. More animal control staff are needed to enforce these laws. That's where the Greece government is failing Takis and the animals.

It would certainly take some volunteer help, but all these neglectful owners should be visited from time to time, to make sure they actually live up to their promises and do not acquire more dogs. It is not necessary to personally confront them, just to have a quick look.

While I think to keep tabs on the offenders is a very good idea, one needs to know local laws. A new dog may be kept at the back of a property. One would have to enter the property to check. That could be interpreted as trespass. I think most volunteers don't speak Greek, which could constitute a problem. Perhaps a signed agreement between Takis and the former owner would make sense and allow an occasional checkup visit. Any such visits should also make it possible for those who are checking to maybe take photographic evidence of any probable abuse.

Glad this beautiful dog will never have to see this place again. I applaud Takis on being so patient. I guess the reward of knowing he's 'bringing them home' outweighs getting angry. I just dont understand what’s going on with the people there who continue to chain up and mutilate beat starve the dogs there. Why is the municipality not doing anything about this? Is it your lawmakers? They know your struggles, yet they call on YOU to help….you Takis have had meetings etc and look now, 400+ dogs!! That is crazy. You’ve said that yourself.
