I am responsible for that sample. Thankfully I bought it after the price was reduced. I did not pay $250 for it.

Well I just want to say thank you to you for supplying many of the whiskey tubers with some great pours! No idea who you are but I have definitely heard your name on several channels and I very much appreciate your generosity so we can learn about pours we might not have had a chance to learn about otherwise! Thanks!

@@fishhead680thanks! Very kind. I firmly believe whiskey is about sharing and I’m happy to share with my YT friends too.

I have nothing but respect for Barrel. They do good work. But it’s bottles like this that’s contributing to the idea that whisky prices have jumped the shark.

I saw this bottle on sale recently near me for $239.99 and I passed. Instead I picked up a Foundation bottle. Barrel Bourbon Foundation is an EXCELLENT pour and only costs about $50. Cheers!

I absolutely love Sea Grass! The finish is dark chocolate !

Josh - Barrell reduced the grey label line to about $160. I disagree - I love the grey label Dovetail and especially the Seagrass over the standard offerings. I think the additional age on both products adds enhanced drinking experience.
@stuffandwhiskey7 ай бұрын
That’s fair. We love the standard products, and the gray label offerings are quite different, so I think most folks would fall in one camp or the other.

Really appreciate that you both blind more bottles than just the allocated stuff.

I've never tried the Dovetail Gray Label, but I was wowed by the Seagrass GL when a friend shared a pour. When I saw it at $160 it was an immediate buy. It's good to know that Dovetail has a Canadian corn whiskey character though---not my favorite--as I might have grabbed it too if I saw it and been disappointed.

I have had the Gray Label Seagrass and thought it was good but not 250. Never tried the Dovetail. I have notes of light whiskey in the regular Dovetail. Cheers!

a couple things I do to help figure out things is to get a little bit of the whiskey on my hands and rub them together to evaporate the alcohol and other times, I will leave my glass out on the counter overnight so the glass dries out and it leaves the fragrances of the components so when I go back for another pour I know what to look for.

I love Barrell Craft but THATS a bit much
@tylerboggs6127 ай бұрын
Interesting! I think the grey dovetail has like a 16yr age statement. I don’t have a bottle but I tried it at elixir and enjoyed it. A lot of these have been getting marked down since they haven’t moved. Still not cheap but marked down to around 170ish I think. Either way great video!

As soon as you noted how light the color was, I immediately thought it was a Barrell bourbon. I’m not a fan of Barrell either. I like the Seagrass, but in general, the prices are just too high for what you’re drinking. I’ve never been so curious about two people I’ve never met, as I’m curious about Bill and Delia Cavanaugh. They always seam to send tons of pricey, highly allocated samples to you guys. How do they get all these rare bourbons? I’m sure a night of bourbon sampling at their house would be an adventure of a lifetime.

Bill and Delia are dear friends and great people. As for their collection, they are in a rare circumstance where their local store takes care of their best customers. Stores like their local one are few and far between.

Great review. Kudos to those who will taste the juice in that bottle and say "oh yeah, thats why its $250". Me?......I wouldnt appreciate the taste and flavor notes enough to be satisfied with the product and price to consider it a great value..........now....the KC9 for $18 I found yesterday in Indiana......lol. To each his own. Cheers.

I actually love this bottle. I have had 3 and paid no where near $250.

I'm back and forth over Barrel stuff. I need to grab Foundation... but I picked up batch 035 for like $90... and it's good... but I don't think it's $90 good.I definitely don't think it lives up to the hype I've seen on YT (reviewers basically calling Barrel's blenders the second coming). It trades blows with Rare Breed, and is not as good as Knob Creek Select or JDBP Rye... both of which are substantially cheaper bottles.
@stuffandwhiskey7 ай бұрын
Well said. Barrell for us is something fun and different rather than being better than cheaper options.

Cheers! Loving those glasses Erin. It sounds barely mature. Meh. Barrel? I am shocked! I am a huge fan of the Seagrass. Erin, we always get some V neck T's for our car club event shirts. The gals really appreciate them.

If I had to name the single most disappointing distiller/blender I have ever experienced in my 34 years of drinking whiskey (I am 55 and not counting under-aged drinking), Barrell is the top of the list. And this is on me, as despite my disappointment, I still buy Barrell on reputation, hoping for a cherry pour that will validate the cost of a bottle.

LOL $250 for a bottle of mostly Canadian whiskey? I think I would rather have the 3, 4 , or even 5 bottles of under $100 bourbon that I could buy instead.

No Barrel is worth $250 a bottle. I know Dunn vinyards and they make great wine but I would rather buy the Cab than this. Thanks

Not a fan of most finished juice from Barrell. Definitely a lot more misses than hits. Not sure how old these finished whiskeys are but some are extremely light in color - red flag. Those barely have enough flavor for the whiskey enthusiast, let alone any sense of finishing. Stick with their traditional blended batches and Stellum.
