So after seeing this immediately after the first video, I figured the mystery of the fireballs. They are aimed at your EXACT position at the time, on the ground, so that means if you're near the sides and move slightly it will bounce off the ground and into the foreground in front of Mario not hurting him. It looks like the only collision is actually about when it hits the ground and is on the same layer. That is actually really nice, it isn't always a killer hit box. Also fun fact, the hide behind an object to protect you from a killer storm/light/entity thing is actually a decently common horror game mechanic... but Mario being a platformer allows for more fluid motion and potential depth if expanded on. This is actually done fairly well too for a horror game, which is shocking. While this game is far from perfect, as the game is worked on it has the ability to be a fun horror experience, using Mario. Not just a typical Exe. That is impressive tbh, and the graphics honestly help, not to bright but not too real either.

The grey Mario head that turns you into stone is like the koopalings in the last 2 castles of NSMB2. They continuously try to turn you into stone, and you have to hide behind stuff to avoid it. That section in the 2nd level that makes you hide behind walls kinda reminds me of New Super Mario Bros. 2's final castle, (Spoilers kinda) where you have to avoid being turned into stone by the Koopalings by hiding behind walls. There's also a level in Donkey Kong Country Returns, that revolves around you avoiding insta-kill waves that come up from the background, by hiding behind rocks. I'm sure Nintendo didn't come up with the idea, but it's really unique, and I wish more games would use it.
