I , flew those for Scenic Air tours in the Hawaiian Islands in the early 80's showing and taking people to all the islands. It was one of the greatest times in my flying career. Thanks for the ride down memory lane. CFIAM/A&P JOE COVINO, Lake Havasu City, Arizona.

I can imagine Joe how nice it was to fly in the islands. I soloed off of Ford Island and later in life, flying the DC-10 into HNL was always my favorite trip.

I worked on that airplane once back in the 1990's in NC. N26PL right? Back then it belonged to Perrone Leather Co. They brought it down to NC because Charles Stites was going to write an article about it (and them) and we also did a photoshoot over Jordan Lake near Raleigh-Durham. I piloted the camera plane but didn't get that acknowledgement I was promised when it was used on the cover of Trade-A-Plane. C'est la vie!

My uncle was a sales rep for Beech at Hanscom Field back in the early 70's. Often, he invited me to look over his inventory of Beechcraft airplanes. The 18s were always my favorite, especially the H Model with the nose wheel because they were so rare. Really enjoyed the video. Enjoyed Major Wiggins' flight training stories. Interesting that he plans to keep the steam gauges.

Hey, thanks for posting. I've been seeing this airplane sitting on the line at CMA for a few months as I come in and out of there, and I've been wondering about the story behind it. I used to fly H models years and years ago - plus the turbo models. Always enjoyed them. What class...

@@1capcarl Yes Sir 🤔 When I was ten years old boy I rode my bike to the hanger if the other FBO down from a Air Heavin and saw a Beech 18 fusalodge strapped to a flatbed trailer and it looks like it was in a belly landing 😮 and I asked the guy standing by it. " Are you going to scrap it?" & He said son, that's $20,000 Of Beech 18 fusalodge and I am not going to scrap it "but 🤔 he gave me a old tecometer and an engine cylinder head tempature gauge and I took I Aircraft techomiter to use as a pretend one on my huffy 3 speed stingray style bicycle 🚲

Love the Golden Age vibe. We don't have the skills and capability to build these industrial age works of art, today. Just ask the USAF trying to buy a modern P-47 as the Light Attack Aircraft; industry says: can't be done, not at any price.

The Brazilian Airforce sold all their H 18 to Mr. Angelo Simioni, who was a pilot and Airplane Trader (he died during an Airshow with his NA T-6, PT-KSZ). My father and his partner got 1 of the H 18 as payment for the electronic works done prior sales of these beautiful and near "New" H 18. Our flew as PT-KXM. After Simioni's dead, the plane was sold.

The King Air has no linage from the Model 18. The entire Queen Air/King Air family of aircraft descend directly from the Model 50, better known as the Twin Bonanza.
@1capcarl3 жыл бұрын
Steve, you are correct. I owned a T Bone D50 for many years. I think what we were trying to convey was that the Beech 18's became somewhat obsolete when the turbine King Airs came out. Good comment.
@stevehicks89443 жыл бұрын
@@1capcarl In reality, the Twin Bonanza and the Queen Air made the Model 18 redundant. The King Air simply inflicted the coup de grace.
