Wow.. I played volleybal for almost 20 years. But I have never seen such a dumb exercise. The whole point is that you dive, land on your chest and slide a bit. Putting the mat down literally makes that impossible.

Diving in volleyball is a give and a take. Some situations you can both get the ball and catch yourself. Some situations require you to just take the fall hard to keep the ball in play. You just get up and keep playing until the ball drops to the floor. So if you’re not mentally prepared to take the fall, volleyball is not your sport.

This is bad, but it could be worse. I had to quit volleyball after getting hip bursitis after the team got punished for 1 teeny tiny piece of trash that no one saw by having to do either A) 1 suicide sprint but "pancaking" at each line in under 1 minute and 20 seconds or something like that Or B) Doing two of these "touch 12's" (so throwing yourself on the floor a total of 24 times). For people who don't know what pancaking is, it's when a volleyball player does a sideways dive and lands on the ground and slides a little bit. Also, you're not allowed to soften the fall in any way. You have to take the fall completely on the side of your body without bracing yourself. So that's how I quit volleyball for life... because of a coach pulling an irresponsible move for punishment instead of making us run.
