I have had Bulldogs in my life since I was a pup myself! Been Sooooooo Many and ALL were the best in their own distinct way! Best part about our Pets are they help keep us grounded and humble. Always loyal and desperate to please their Pawrents! My Bulldog I have now is Jack Boy and he constantly makes me realize how lucky I am to have him! Now, some of our Pets have a remarkable ability to "talk back" to us AND it's hilarious when they try their handle at "Pouting"🤣....but I'm convinced our furry babies keep us young at heart and live just a bit longer too! LQQK forward to seeing Rookie in the future and no doubt she will be spoiled in about 5 seconds! MOO From COW-lumbus, Ohio 👋

I’m 71 & Aussies (or Aussie mixes), have been my breed of choice forever. A well bred Aussie will have a lot of energy, but will be able to relax and chill (unlike the intensity of a BC). My dogs were super intelligent, loyal, friendly to everything we introduced as part of the family including; cats, chickens, rabbits, calves, kids (both species) lambs and even a fawn!

I think you made a great breed choice. I also had a non-strong eyed herding breed, the Bearded Collie. Similar working traits, but I think that the Aussie’s coat type is a better fit for your needs. Good luck with the training. She’ll definitely keep you on your toes.

Yes, her double coat will definitely help her to keep warm outside during the winter months!
@susansmart80862 ай бұрын
@@ADairyonthePrairie yes, the double coat on our Beardies often made it hard to get them inside in the winter, but I think their longer outer coat would just add on extra work.

My old Australian Shepard (named Frisky) (same color) was fairly good at chasing cows. But he had one tremendous ability: when the two bulls were fighting, he would run up and grab on a tail about halfway up: the bull could not kick him up there, and Frisky would hang on for dear life; the bull would spin around a few times with the dog hanging on and flying through the air, then the bull would take off. At that point the dog would release. If a cow would spin around and try to chase him, he would get on the inside of the spin and jump up and latch on to the upper eyelid; the cow would let out a bellow but could not shake him off, then the cow would run down the alley and he would release. And he started doing tail latching on his own by about 11 months old. I love all puppies including yours. Be careful with bale-deck or flat-deck trucks: the outer 2" around perimeter have pockets and strap-down rails: Frisky cracked his leg bone jumping off. His hind leg fell through the 2" crack as he jumped off.
@ADairyonthePrairie12 сағат бұрын
Frisky sounds like he was a great dog! I’m already teaching Rookie to “wait” when I open the car door, or the skidsteer door so that she knows she has to wait for my okay before she can jump out. This gives me the option to pick her up and let her down if any machinery I operate has a set of steps made from grates!

We raise border collies. I wish I could have given one to you. Ours herd cows, hogs and chickens. They use as much pressure as they need too. So if they need to hang off the end of a bulls nose they will. Or they will never even open their mouths when pushing chickens lol. Completely duel purpose. ❤️😉

As you know....Socialization when Young is Key: Animals, People, Children, Car rides, baths (already) Socialization involves exposing your young puppy to a range of different experiences. Acclimated to all types of sights, sounds, and smells in a positive manner. Proper socialization can prevent a dog from being fearful of children, for example.

YEARS AGO, We were visiting Virginia City, Nevada and the old stagecoach road which the silver miners rode into town is now a historical trail. We drive a Jeep so of course we drove the old trail down the mountain to Washoe Lake. Along the way, we rounded a corner and came upon a big herd of sheep. SUDDENLY, out of the midst of the herd came a sheep dog tearing towards us. He skidded to a stop just off our front bumber and started barking up a storm. He kept looking over his shoulder keeping track of his sheep. He made it plain we were to wait until his sheep had crossed the trail before he was going to let us proceed. By & by, the last lamb crossed and he turned and ran to join them as they all we going up a hill. There was NO shepard with this herd, it was all the dog. Aparently that dog was so good at herding the owner trusted him and him alone to herd the sheep to where they were going. VERY impressive. Now there a good dog. !

Why do dogs have to be in crates? My whole house is a crate and no I don’t have problems with them going in the house
@ADairyonthePrairie2 ай бұрын
Crate training is an essential aspect of creating a safe space for a dog, no matter where they are. Rookie is going to be a constant companion for me, even off farm, so it’s important for her to have a “portable” safe space. Also in the event of an unfortunate disaster (ie fire, tornado, etc) it’s very helpful for her to be crate trained so that she’s not more stressed. Crate training should be included in every dog’s training in my opinion. If you don’t agree, that’s totally fine, just realize that this is my way of setting up my dog for success even in the worst situations.
