I just went from a 9’ 7wt Sage one to the new 7wt R8 for my streamer rod. It’s a sweet stick with lots of power and the feel separates it from the one and x . I casted the 5wt but it felt more on the slower side of what I’m used to so I’ll stick with the 5wt Z-Axis 😁

Brian - Idn if these rods will change my life. Enough said. A good take on the fact marketing jargon doesn't necessarily equate to the ridiculous price tag they demand.
@Madriveroutfitters2 жыл бұрын
Not sure that is what he was saying. Sage is charging what they feel they need to in order to turn a profit. Plain and simple. The cool thing is that nobody will be forced to buy one if they don't want to. Thanks for watching.
@ashtonmakowsky98382 жыл бұрын
@@Madriveroutfitters they wouldn't be turning a profit at 900$ ? Cmon lol. The more "power phrases" the higher the price when it comes to marketing. Thats every industry, but especially fly fishing these days. Perhaps ask Brian what he meant then and let us know. Because that's how it comes across.

Just recently had the opportunity to both dry cast and then fish this new R8 rod. I am lucky enough to do this with many of the top end rods from different makers. The caveat for my next statement is this, I mainly fish the rivers and streams of the northeast for trout. That being said, I will never believe that we are being held back by our equipment. If you have the cash to drop on such a high priced rod, (and I'm sure you'll drop a good amount on the reel also), have at it, Who am I to tell others how to spend their money. All of my rods I fish are hand made with blanks and materials that cost approximately $250, my most expensive reel is a Battenkill, and I still use a few old Pfluger medalist reels. Since 1980 when I first started fly fishing I've caught more then my share of the fish, not because of my equipment and sometimes in spite of it. Drop as much as you can on good fly lines, that is where money is better spent.

Looks like something I’ll have to look into. SAGE is without a doubt top shelf premium product that flat out performs better than many other brands. I see myself getting a 7wt 9’ for Smallmouth Bass and feisty Wiper on the streamer and explosive top water bite In Kansas. Maybe a 6wt for the Gunnison River in CO. I’ll have to see if my brother is willing to get a 9wt-10wt for his Muskellunge fishing endeavors in West Virginia. Looking forward to it gentlemen.

It won't be ultimately life changing, but quality kit, can give you that feeling of confidence in your kit, it is supremely light and well balanced, and paired with a quality line, makes casting a dream. That's the main difference. Plus if you ever decide to sell it on, you won't lose as much money.
