An engine builder in Australia by the name of Les Small, had an interesting way of restricting oil flow in the Australian Holden 304 ci V8. He put pipe cleaners down inside the pushrods. Oil surge with too much oil in the valve train was a real issue then. This trick worked well. Cheap fix.

The ford block always tricky restricting the lifters sometimes one side won’t oil and have to make an external crossover. I like using the restricted pushrods in a ford engine instead of restricting the lifers

That sounds like a much better idea than reducing oil flow to the lifters.

On the recent video when the drive shaft on the dump made a lot of sparks there was a dip in power at high R.P..M.,I noticed a reflection from the overhead light on black ring at the connection of the intake tube and the manifold., that seemed to indicate, the clamp was loose. The reflection moved from right to left,at high R.P.M. Do consider my suggestion about inventing laser beam spark plugs. A KZbin channel called Led' Lab. is guy(Leslie Wright) who's laser savvy enough to build the laser,but you will have to engineer it to fit in the spark plug hole. A blue laser will go up to 3000 degrees, vs.1500 for a spark that's only .030 inch long .sparks are like a candle in the wind compared to a laser light that goes everywhere in the chamber at the speed of light (that is faster than the flame front).

can probably repair those old beat up heads and use them to build a budget medium power smallblock using a mostly stock bottom end with a few small upgrades maibe a non turbo one to recoup some of youre cash , if you tell the customer that it wi fail if he adds more power to it you can probably get away with it as for welding the tap straight ontoo the extention : drill a hole in the extention using a lathe where you can pressfit the tap intoo before welding , should be straight then and you probably can go ower heat on welding too , allso a machine tap (the spiral ones) pushes the chips to the back of the tap wish should help with trying to keep them out the oilgallery

Seen on other engines where a little regulator is plumbed inline to regulate the oil pressure down to the lifters. Also do whatever you can to improve oil draining back to the pan. Make sure the oil pickup isnt getting air in high g scenarios. Ya know the drill. An accusump can help solve your oili issue too. Plus you can use it to prime the engine on the first start of the day.

Why not improve the capacity of oil pick tube and oil pump and use extra quart of oil with slight deeper pan sump.
@Mltemple833313 күн бұрын
Issue is too much oil ending up not being able to drain back. Adding a couple quarts would end up with the crank swinging through a huge amount of oil and foaming it up. Pickup then grabs aerated oil and that causes issues instead imo. Either have to restrict flow to top end or increase flow back but that’s just gravity and larger passages which would probably not work. Oil restriction is a known way of fixing the issue.

Excuse my ignorance but that seems like a very tight restriction for all the lifters and valve gear? Is there a restriction fitted at the end of the gallery where it returns to the sump to allow it to pressurise? Cheers
@Motorsportkyle13 күн бұрын
Yessir everything past that plug is blocked off so oil only can return through the clearance between the lifters and the lifter bore in the lifter gallery circuit. Thats why the hole can be so small because with only .0015 of lifter clearance it cant flow more volume than that .093 feed hole.
