When I got my 3 black angus I opened the trailer the ran out looked around about 4 minutes my daughters horse ran up to them to smell them they took off ran through 5 strand of barbed wire . 2 stoped in my neighbor’s pasture which is connected with mine. The other kept going. Finally found her week later in another neighbor’s pasture. He kept her for about 2 months then one day I came home he caught her brought her back. Thank god for good neighbor’s .

We are starting out the same way. I have a question though… aren’t you worried about bringing in some illness to your home herd? Even the little farms up here quarantine livestock for a minimum of 30 days. I’m not suggesting you are doing “it” wrong just want to hear your perspective of intergrading new livestock

Thanks for the breakdown. Do you have any tips for finding a good butcher? A friend of ours who used to be in the business said they are harder to find than an honest car salesman. 😂 We want to sell our hair sheep meat. Thanks so much! God bless.

Love the video. I’m 20 years old, my grandfather willed to me a 80 acre plot of land in north west mountain has been in the family for generations but Im the only one in the family who wants to keep the legacy. About 55 acres of good grazing land the rest is forest. I’m still praying on it if I should have a cow calf operation or stalker cows. What would you recommend? I have pigs, egg and meat chickens, sheep and bees just need the cows to make the property hole lol. God bless and keeping you in prayers.

Best of luck with the new additions to the family/increase to the inventory! I hope everything goes smooth. Are you able to get appointments at the processor for the new cows with them being finished (maybe) in just 120 days or so? I was under the impression that there had been a long wait for processor appointments. Take care and God Bless.

Question, with selling those two cows as shares wouldn't you have to have the one cow that only half is sold processed USDA in order to sell the other half retail? Seems like an additional processing when they could get them processed custom exempt.

Expecting finishing weights to be 1000-1100lbs. Typical loss is about 40% from standing to hanging weight.

You never just turn cattle out best to leave penned tell the next morning and some do up to 3 days. Have seen people do like you did and catch the last one many miles later. At the very least they will walk the fence line of any pasture you dump them in. Yes the herd mentality kicked in and they wanted to be with the other cows. That's a normal prey herd animal thing. Being a working cowboy takes a little more knowledge than any town job. A lawyer don't have the class schooling that I have

I'm wondering how much $ do u except / want / hope to get for these after u finish them out ? I don't have a clue? I don't care about what u make per say . I want you guys to make a fortune and be successful and I'm happy for you guys. I think your doing great , well Sandra is , and you just try your best to keep up with your better half lol So basically a $ 1800 heifer how much should u except to make after you sell it off . I imagine it's less for 1/2 or whole compared to sold individually cuts . I'm just wondering . , great job , they did look good I thought and they were not too flighty. Congrats u 2 . Todd

It really depends on whether we sell it as bulk or retail. Once we take out processing costs it’s not a lot so we are trying to make it up in volume.

Why are you calling steers, cows? It's confusing.
@SheratonParkFarms
@SheratonParkFarms 9 ай бұрын
It’s easy to use “cows” as an overall term for the herd. There is only 1 steer in this whole group of 24. Everything else is either a heifer or a cow. Sorry for any confusion.
