Honestly, I was lucky as a kid to see Margate when back then, you were lucky to get a British seaside holiday. cheap flights to Europe still in their infancy etc. So many happy memories attached to Margate. I'll be watching Ghost Train rides on YT later just to keep happy silly memories from youth, alive! We were so happy just with a picnic on the beach, sandcastles and a wade in the water! xx

I grew up going to dreamland (loved the apple coaster as a kid) before my family moved to London. I've never quite got over how margate has changed. Its still quite rough really, but somehow the hipsters have found a life there.

The Thanet coast is booming! Much nicer and friendlier than Brighton, and on the Highspeed train is just over an hour away from London so you can still enjoy the metropolis and live in a cool coastal town thrown into the bargain. Amazing how much it’s changed since the 80s/90s/00s!

We agree it is definitely booming. Absolutely great to see its transformation well under way!

Oh what a wonderful walk back in time your trip was for me. I used to go to Margate a lot to the beach as a child and when I was in my teens. Next to Dreamland there used to be a Dance Hall, I think it was called Rendevous. I used to go there with friends on a Saturday evening on the train catching the last train home at 11.15pm. The lads used to really play up, throwing toilet rolls out of the windows or climbing up and laying in the net luggage racks. I met my husband in the Rendevous, I had just finished with a bloke I had been seeing so wasn't in the best of moods, but Richard was sp persistent, walked me to the station, asked for a date, 2 years later we married and have been for 50 years now. There were two or three other Dance places just outside Margate. In my days in Dreamland there was a double big wheel, one inside the other in a figure of 8. I hated it and every time I went on it I squealed all the time. Also a lovely ride called The Tubs, an underground grotto where you sat in the round quite deep "tubs" and floated around, it was lovely all lit up like a Grotto. Also a train that took you all around the perimeter of the park. Such happy days and where I met my lovely husband. Also a booth selling the beautiful mini douhgnut rings, still warm. Thank you so much.😁😁

Oh wow such wonderful memories. It’s a very different place now, they have spent a lot of money on it but they have also done a wonderful job of retaining that nostalgic feel. It looked to us as if they were renovating the dance hall next door so maybe that will be coming back some time soon too!

I.went to Margate in the late 60s when I was 5years old!! Remembering Dreamland, sure there were some weird sideshows e.g. Lady sitting in a bubble.bath tank.dressed as a mermaid!!

Bembom Brothers was the park that started it all for me. The Looping Star (the original Schwarzkopf model) was my first ever coaster! Such happy memories there 🙂

Visited Dreamland on Sunday 31st July 2022 while out for the day with my friend, where we both experienced some of the rides there and out of all three rides I remember are Dodgems which I love, Scenic Railway as its thrilling & gives you loads of airtime when speeding down the drops & up the hill parts and finally the Waltzers which gave us the feeling like the ride was going to derail off. A lot of G-Force lol. But this was my recent memory as have visited before this a.k.a many times with family, Scenic was my favourite coaster and ride in the park, remember riding other rides there being the jumping pirate boats, don't remember their official names? But all I know is they went up and down real quick, make people sometimes dizzy afterwards? Well they did to me anyways, by the way the coffee shop, found a place can go to buy Vinyl discs lol. Started a collection recently even got some of my own this Christmas, which is exciting and can't wait to collect more aswell give them a listen. But yeah nice video, really enjoyed and can't wait in future for more. By the way, about onsite parking, maybe they in my opinion should get rid of Dreamland parking & maybe update that one you parked in with extra floors or build a new parking at the back of Dreamland either on Tivoli Industrial Estate land or Old Margate Sands Station site? Make more space for new future additions like more bigger attractions, coasters and rides for Dreamland Amusement Park? Especially for events etc? Be good and worth considering I think? But anyways, cheers again and look forward in future for more videos around travel, Dreamland and tourism. 😀👍

Love Margate so much I’m buying a place there! I too went in the 80’s when Dreamland was called Bembom brothers & remember the Mary Rose ride, a ship that swung back & forth & eventually went upside down, usually loose change & other stuff would fall out of people’s pockets!! We rediscovered Margers in the first summer of the pandemic (2020) & also found Cliffs (as we are vinyl DJ’s) & go back every time we visit to pick up some tunes! Thank you for your positive film, Margers is definitely on the up!

Not the Tate Modern Art Gallery but The Turner Centre. Personally a wasted opportunity for me, I’ve lived in Margate since 1986 and dreamland is a shadow of what it used to be and personally I’ve never been in the Turner centre since it opened.
