Hey, what's up everbody!
We have exciting news, today we get to finish a new sulphur monitor female from James Wallace. We just put the finishing touches on her touches and went to pick her up. Even though it was a bit rough, she's getting used to her enclosure.

I agree with using the read. If you did go over the walkway, and then partially over both sides, you would still break up the heat island that’s happening. The difference in temperature from the hallway to the enclosures, would keep the air moving slightly, and would also help. But, free is good. If you just staple up, the black felt now and know that after the winter, you will probably have to replace it it will give you a lot of time to watch where the sun moves how to fix the cages and what would be the best placement for plants or other coverings. My first thought was just to plant some trees along the perimeter but of course with the storms you don’t want those trees coming down onto the cages. Nothing simple about this, of course. Good luck with it. Love the videos if I lived closer, I would volunteer to help.

Name plaque's are a must when breeding, a note pad too! Got to know who's who and the bloodlines, and right it all down! As for the shade cloth, just use what you've got until it runs out and by then you'll know what will work for a permanent solution. I did like the look of the reed fencing. You could put some of that up as well to compare the difference and to see what you like the look of?

Hey Jerry. A few videos back I suggested using shade cloth. If you do use it try to find out what percentage it is before installing. I had 50% shade cloth over my greenhouse an pool for years. It is very hardy stuff. i am in extreme south alabama and it went thru many a hurricane. Will let enough sun thru for the plants and grass as well as rain. The landscape felt will let water drain but I'm not sure at what rate so that could be an issue. Hope you can figure it out but plz be careful in this heat.

#wolfsworld Mr Jerry 😅 Awesome update(and thank you again patrons) on Patreon community .. Yes definitely and you probably already started this week with the "Bob-Kat" to use around the property and enclosures. I'd suggest running a long draining system from the enclosures and away from them(hopefully you have enough draining boxes and filters around the area,the more you have,the quickly the area will drain. Definitely put a huge one, "Underground Box Draining filter) somewhere around the backside of the enclosure.. And I love the new family addition to the place, female sulfur water monitor(I saw pinky enjoying her spa day in the tub 😅) Back to the new female, I love how active she is(and shes tough,elegant, fit as a fiddle and strong/fast) she flies right out of the box like a flying monitor should be able too 😅.. Hmm I have a name suggestion but you probably will wait 🫷 to see what her personality is like the coming weeks/months .. Arina is an elegant strong name that's pronounced as it sounds like "Arena"

@@WolfesWorld Years back Kenan did a video at the Turtle Source. He had enclosures largely covered with exception of a 1-2 foot strip that was uncovered. As the sun moved, the strip of sun did same. Simple but elegant. Maybe there's an application at your place. Weed cloth actually works really well for your application.

Hey Jerry, love what you're doing. I have suggestion for the winter months. Set up heat lamp for each cage and have it solar powered, maybe near their water beds. That way you can save money from the electric bill for the animals and when warmer months begin you can redirect the solar power for other use. Maybe setting up outside cameras in the cages for 24 hour monitoring that can help you document their behaviors at night. All those can be solar powered as well.

But the problem with the vinyl is it will get mechanical damage from hard rain/monsoon. So it'll *possibly* shed micro particles of plastic fibres into the soil and water tubs. They might get ingested by the monitors. Yes, the natural fibres will break down and get into the soil and water, but they'll be like the plant materials that they'd encounter in their natural habitat and be less likely to adversely affect them.

I suggested doing something solid on hallways as the position of sun will change giving different results. Think about a pergalo /sundial effect. Now that I know you have some material I would do one hallway burlap and the other shade cloth/mesh ASAP cause everyone s gas stove is to blame for global warming, right Brandon lol. I was gonna suggest grading but you mentioned it so I have some other ideas but it'd be easier to draw them explain. However nothing really to add as you said what I was thinking , but Geo cooling would be something I'd incorporate for air flow n water. Oh and was going to say get a fish feeder, but that's a great way to start n end the day sitting on the dock n throwing food by hand.

Hopefully I can say this in a way that makes sense but if not I can draw it out and send it to you. Anyways... picture a roller at the end of each row on top made out of large pvc pipe. Attached to the rollers is a length of shade cloth wide enough to cover however much of the enclosures you want, and long enough to stretch the length of the row. Fix a simple crank to the rollers so that you can easily pull it out or roll it up. The the cloth would be fastened to one of the rollers all the way across maybe with industrial adhesive or something and to the other roller with just a chord/rope on each side. The side with the glue is the side that you roll it to when not in use while the rope side is only used to pull it out when needed.
@WolfesWorld
@WolfesWorld Жыл бұрын
Sounds brilliant, but something that rolls out would only have points of attachment and both ends….. remember that we have frequent tropical storms and sometimes mild hurricanes. Having a track system would solve that , but be too expensive….. I might just have to screw it down
@TheBeardedHerper
@TheBeardedHerper Жыл бұрын
@WolfesWorld yeah my thought was that if you can roll it all back to one end when needed it would be safe during hurricanes and high winds. I was thinking like a sail on a sailboat where you turn a crank and a line pulls it to the top. But that might be overly complicated to rig up.

It looks like you have the felt for right now with no money out of pocket. I'd say use what you have. If you put it up to cover the comple walkway and then over the cage, and then did the same on the other side you'd have double felt over the walkway. Would that create a cooler corridor for you and next to the water tubs? I've used the reed fencing for years (in the Chicagoland area) and would really recommend it for the future shade covering. Can't wait to see what you do! Take care!

Granted I've never owned a monitor before but living in Alabama i know heat and humidity. It's been over 100 with the heat index many days and its nasty, nasty stuff. I would worry about the felt not being as breathable as the other materials. Felt could possibly trap heat as where the others would allow for some air flow. Just a thought. I probably would test out a bit of each of them. I hope your new baby has settled in nicely. No disrespect mate just looks like the geo fabric they place under tar roads and it concerns me mate 👍 I say run the natural product until you can sort out the wolf option in the future 👍

Probably a silly idea but can't you use black porch screen on like a roller system to roll it in and out across the top of the enclosures almost like a garage door but with screen but I'm probably over thinking it lol😂

Be careful, Jerry! It's been a VERY warm summer with high UV. We're feeling that even in the Midwest along with the haze caused by the Canadian wildfires. My parents live in South Florida not far from you and they've said it's been miserably humid this year, too. Even where I am, I've been been diligent NOT to get dehydrated. It's very easy to do that!

Try adding lemon and cucumber to the water, it’s very refreshing and helps with the taste. Of course you are already aware of how hydrating watermelon is.

Couldn't you buy a pool cover system to roll it back and forth as needed?
