What is the difference between update and clean install? Can u explain? I bought ASUS rog strix laptop with RTX but I need Optix doesnt work because drivers wasnt updated, so which way do u recommend to update driver?
@CharlesSmith-io9fp2 жыл бұрын
@@mcan-piano4718 When you update the drivers, all that happens is the new information is added to the existing driver. Like adding support for a new game. If for some reason the old driver had corrupted files, these remain and can still cause problems. A clean install removes the old driver completely, also removing possibly corrupted files too. It then installs a new or "clean" version of the driver with the new updates include. It can take a few extra minutes but eliminates problems. You can open GeForce and reinstall your drivers opting for a clean install. If your game has been running poorly this can correct those problems. That's why I always do it clean. It can help improve framerate in your games too.

Recommended usage You MUST disconnect your internet or completely block Windows Update when running DDU until you have re-installed your new drivers. DDU should be used when having a problem uninstalling/installing a driver or when switching GPU brand. DDU should not be used every time you install a new driver unless you know what you are doing. DDU will not work on network drive. Please install in a local drive (C:, D: or else). The tool can be used in Normal mode but for absolute stability when using DDU, Safemode is always the best. If you are using DDU in normal mode, Clean, reboot, clean again, reboot. Make a backup or a system restore (but it should normally be pretty safe). It is best to exclude the DDU folder completely from any security software to avoid issues.

In all fairness, there's a really big reason for the overhead... The average user, even the self proclaimed "gamer" and "computer / IT god", isn't qualified to uninstall their drivers / install new ones. nVidia, as they have it set up now, has a system in place that allows ALL end users to have successful driver updates along with worry free usage of their products after the fact... no matter how they use them. Asking the average user to go through the radio box list of items, and to then check the services and items that they "need", would surely result in a GIANT portion of their customer base to run into problems.. tons of them. All different kinds of folks, speaking different languages, with different problems. . . So a company is inclined to make a suite that can ensure that any sort of user is going to have an A-Okay time with their driver updates. Nothing wrong with it at all really.... Drivers still install fine, still work fine, and lots of folks will end up wanting to use items that they may have not included in their install... I know lots of folks who use ansel, geforce exp, stream or record with nvidia utilities, etc. not to mention power options that need to be installed on laptops and the like, otherwise sticking folks with IGP only... I use much of that stuff, and I wouldn't want to lose any of it at all, that's for sure. . . That along with the fact that there is literally zero performance impact to having these background processes running, and you are left with a "why wouldn't they do it that way" sort of situation. Now, if you are in a position to do what you did, knowing what you explicitly do and do not need / want, then fine. Same as any power user, go ahead and power use. But to suggest that nVidia is doing a no no is just, well.... inaccurate as it can be really. What they are doing is sensible from every angle .

I just tried that NVcleaninstall tool you mentioned and my mind is blown. I literally dropped like 20 processes after using it, and so far, "knock on wood" I've seen no ill effects. I mean seriously I realize Microsoft has been doing this for years, but never suspected something as benign as a good ole video card manufacture doing it too. Makes me suspect even the lINUX fans will be in the same boat not long from now. Just saying. . Thank you Chris!

@KnoppersPolizei3 жыл бұрын
@@imp4ktth Why should it increase the performance? I have nvidia experience installed and if i monitor the usage in task manager, it's always shown as zero percent cpu and gpu load. Just because something is running in the background doesn't always mean it uses a noticeable amount of resources. It literally doesn't make any difference performance wise. Don't just believe all things you see in a clickbait youtube video where the creator exaggerate things or maybe doesn't even know anything about what he is doing. There are multiple hundreds of services running in the background all the time and at least on my machine, it's still google chrome who uses the most resources in idle most of the time.

@@imp4ktth Ah shit, i accidentally deleted my comment, so here is just a short version. It's not a good advice for everyone to just install the bare minimum. Sooner or later many will have problems because they didn't install PhysX, Microsoft Visual Runtimes , Optimus (important for laptop users and Chris didn't even mention it) or just because they no longer will install updates. I'm just shocked how many here follow these instructions without even asking what they are doing.

You did not show the nvidia panel work after your "reconfiguration". Also installing driver from a third party software doesn't look like a good idea to me... Call me paranoid, but I'll just put my tinfoil hat here. And if nvidia control panel works after all that - maybe I can just block those processes from launching on startup via HIPS software or autorun manager and call it a day ? And when I do need all that bloated stuff - I'll just remove the blocking rule ? I really don't see a reason for all that software intrusion you offer.

Shortly after my PC restarted, it installed the driver(s) before I ran NVCleanInstall because unlike the message showing up in red like yours did, it showed the current driver. I thought if I ran the NVCleanInstall anyway, that it would end up with the same result as you but I was wrong. There are still two NVIDIA containers running. Should I unplug the ethernet cable from my PC while until NVCleanInstall has a chance to do its thing or will it not work at all since it needs to communicate with NVIDIA in order to obtain the driver(s)?

Sometimes using the nvidia filters that require the Geforce Experience software is pretty neat for some games. For instance changing a really dark game like Warzone (since raising the brightness in game gets you a really washed out game) of giving more color depth when playing Elite Dangerous is quite nice.

You'll lose supported optimization for certain games, shadow play (screen recording), shield streaming (playing your pc games to your other devices). These processes in idle and background doesn't even use high processing and memory. This video is total bs and definitely just for clickbait.
