100% agree with Jack about not getting a dog if you’re not quite ready or travel a lot. my wife and I waited five (difficult) years but once we did, we were SO glad we waited. talking about friends and dog sitters being available is a lot easier than actually finding them to be available. plus we were able to backpack around the world for five months. now we have a house with a little yard and two dogs and we’re all very happy. ❤

I do have to say, as a happy dog owner of 4 fur babies, you do need to be home quite a lot to be able to have a dog properly. It's so much harder if you're going to be away from home a lot, and traveling with a dog can be difficult, so I 100% agree with Jack on that one, sorry girl! Also, native Texan as well, and 29 degrees Celsius is a mild cool front to us, and our dogs do just fine in our 100+ degree Fahrenheit temps (43.33 degrees Celsius for you) as long as they have water, if they're outside, and aren't walking a lot on concrete/asphalt. Just don't leave your fur babies out in it at all times, and they'll be good.

ellie if you guys want a dog get a large greyhound! the former racing ones are large and have zoomies, but they sleep 18-20 hours a day. they’re also very open to playing with other people like a sitter or people as long as they’ve met them before. there’s also special places where you can rescue ex-racing dogs that are rescued from being euthanized after their racing years are over and they can train them to be cat friendly! their also the perfect apartment dog or good if you have little to no yard, just make sure to walk them often. you also have to take them to the vet often to make sure their joints are healthy. they’re very cuddly and literally so perfect for you and jack. they also tolerate loud noises and most of them don’t react to barking, just howls from other greyhounds :)

As someone who grew up with an average of three dogs at a time, all of whom made it to at least 15, and I'm currently learning how to train flock guardians (great examples of independence and weather tolerance in dogs, and there's so many breeds for various situations), Ellie is so right about getting a sitter. Yes, you should make sure any pet you have is treated with love, respect, and security, but especially since you can always give yourselves resources to travel with a dog whenever you're not flying, there's no reason not to give an animal a wonderful life if you have the opportunities to do so.
