Robert is amazing on a horse! Love watching him handle them.

From Montana! That says a lot what fantastic trainers you and Robert are. And it also tells me why I can’t find a local trainer that is capable of training my mustang under the saddle. I am currently the only one riding her, because she bucked off my trainer.

One of the ponies I took on many years ago - very cheap auction purchase, in super physical health, unusually - was somewhat similar. He was only about 6yo when I got him, and - on first glance - a very steady gelding, but I don't think he'd ever really been taught his 'job' by anyone actually capable of teaching him, so he'd worked it out for himself as best he could - and it didn't involve a great deal of forward movement _for his own safety_ (in his mind) as he'd never learnt to move out of his comfort zone on request, and struggled a great deal with doing so. There was no actual malice in his rearing, nor any panic, but he had little confidence in himself or his rider at the outset, and resisted the only way he'd learned was effective. He was a lot of work, but very rewarding as I did turn him round eventually, and sold him to a capable small adult who just wanted to hack out with much more competitive children and relatives

Thanks again Tim, for an excellent video! " ...just has a general aversion to..." you said. 😁 Very polite, I have heard it called other things! And I guess"popping up" means a half-rear. Kudos to Robert, great job.

Nice work Robert! Is the horse popping up in front on the owner at home?

How old is Smoky? And what is his breed? I guessed some Arab, but you mentioned he is gated. Thanks for another informative video. 😊

Nice looking horse. What's his breeding?

I had an Appaloosa rear up on me and as I kept trying to get forward movement, he lost his balance and fell back onto to me. I wasn't in his mouth, he slipped on a large gravel rock and lost his balance. He had been rearing a while but luckily on that day I was trying out an English Saddle.

Where the saddle horn would've been is what landed on my face.

Also, how old is he and what is his job going to be? Cow work? Trail riding? Thanks
@timandersonhorsetraining6 сағат бұрын
I'd have to look on his paperwork but I think he is 8. The owners own a large ranch so he will be used to check fence and check cows.

Would lots of changes of direction help also in this case of first ride?
@timandersonhorsetraining6 сағат бұрын
Some horses that will help but some that would get fired up so that's why it's not my first go-to.
@rhondab97925 сағат бұрын
I thought you said he was 8ish, used to a bit, with a lot of ranch miles on him. So he's not green. I'm not usually a pain person, but have to wonder where this popping up suddenly came from.
@timandersonhorsetraining5 сағат бұрын
Nothing about how he is acting except the bad behavior indicates pain. If it were pain there would be other indicators. This is attitude.
@kensuzdoer6 сағат бұрын
Why was he brought to you? Was it any particular issues?
@timandersonhorsetraining5 сағат бұрын
No particular issue, just a general aversion to doing what is asked of him. The rearing is his go to, to get the rider to stop asking for something.
