One thing I like to do is when you are measuring the starter pin and it gives you an earth, stick a headlight bulb between the probe and pin and power it. If it can light the bulb its got to be a solenoid issue really as it has a good path to ground. Either that or the wires cut and shorted!

Back in my younger days (early 70s) I had this starter problem a few times but then I just replaced the brushes I don’t suppose you can even buy brushes now

Liked this video. I recently commented on another video asking why a live wire that isn’t energised might show as an earth. This video explains a lot. The live wire for the starter is showing as a negative when it isn’t energised because the starter is constantly earthed, and the live it’s connected to the starter. Hope that’s correct haha

Had a cracking job in today that made me think of you. Pug 407, customer tried changing his headlight bulb with the lights switched on. Got the bulb in but no light. Took me a minute to figure out but with the light unplugged there’s 12v out of the BSI, with light plugged in drops to 2v. Drag test etc all good. By by BSI….. I did end up bypassing it through a fused relay from the output for the other side - not ideal but have to work with the customers budget sometimes (within reason). Getting more in to electrical diagnostics and have total respect for everyone who does it. Even just making sense of wiring diagrams can be a real skill sometimes! All the best, it’s almost the weekend 😂

My dad had a fault like this ,but no live to the small wire on the starter when the key was turned ,when i gave it a live it started and ran, i think it was the under bonnet fuse box ,i did not have access to wiring diagrams at the time this was some years ago ,dad has passed away and the car sold

What area are you in? There’s not many people that seem to know the PSA van electrics that well. Being the owner of a mk2 dispatch and knowing how fragile they are electrically (under bonnet fusebox/bsm etc) it would be handy to know if your near me for the inevitable failure 😂
