Hi guys, Keep the garden clean. ... Pull weeds and remove dead plants promptly. As soon as you're finished harvesting squash, pull vines to eliminate any remaining eggs and younger stages of squash bugs. Plant flowers and herbs that repel squash bugs, such as nasturtium, petunia, and catnip.

Eating a tomato you have just picked. It transports me back to my 2 year old self. My grandad ( a veteran of WW 1) used to spend all his time in his greenhouse as he was disabled. He was awarded the Military medal and his officer was awarded the military cross for bravery and they were honorarily discharged. He always called me in to pick the first tomato every year. The smell of tomato leaves and fresh tomatoes brings tears to my eyes. He was the best Grandpa ever❤❤❤❤❤❤

This is what I heard about squash bugs and I think it's worth trying. Squash bugs have a specific life cycle. We have a very long growing season in this area. So, if you plant as soon as you can, harvest what you can and then when the squash bugs come pull out the plants. Wait a month or so (I don't know the exact time) and then replant. You won't get squash bugs later in the season because then the bugs are out of season. The alternative is to do one planting later in the growing season. Zucchinis are usually prolific and you can get enough harvest for your family just by planting later. You can preserve them by freezing or freeze drying. When freezing, grate and store in measurements you usally use in your favorite recipes. For instance if you make zucchini bread andneed 2 cups of grated zucchini, freeze in bags of 2 cups each. Then you won't have to measure when baking your bread or whatever recipe you're making. Hope this helps 😊

I feel for you girl! I've decided to always plant squash and pumpkins in a place away from my main garden. They will get in the melons too; I guess anything with nice juicy vines. You might try growing them down at the end of the road near your flag. Savage some early squash and burn the vines. Killing them daily and inspecting is good. Hoss tools promotes specticide. My granddaughter Amy was 4 years old and she came to visit my wife and I and played in the garden. We check the tomatoes and found green tomatoes all over the ground. The little sweetheart has fun picking them. My wife asked her what hand picked the tomatoes and after she was told she smacked the hand lightly and said it was a very naughty hand and not to do it again. 30 years later Amy has three boys of her own and still remembers her naughty hand. She is not allowed near the tomato plants at all!!!!

Look up Rick and Jane Austin. I was watching a video about how they garden today and they have been growing via a food forest method, going from a conventional method back to a hunter/gatherer method of planting of fruit trees, nut trees, berries and herbs that they don't water, feed, weed or use any chemicals of any kind and use a greenhouse to grow more tropical type plants and trees. They have a hard time keeping up with preserving their bounty. Maybe next year start your squashes very early in the greenhouse and put them out early too. You may have to cover them and protect from frost for several weeks, but you should also get a crop before the bugs come out. My saying is "I'm a gardener therefore I am a gambler!" Texas Deb ❤

I've never had great luck with snow peas here. Sometime, if the spring is very cool I get a few to eat right off the plant, but not enough to waste garden space on them. Squash bugs can be horrible and I've had seasons where I didn't get much. However, this year, we've already had a lot and more to come. Our tomatoes do wonderful, but going organic in Arkansas is quite challenging. Sometimes, we have broken down and pulled out the big guns. My FIL (native to AR.) used to always used 7 dust and they lived to a ripe old age. Yellow squash does usually do better here. Purple Hull peas, zipper peas, black eyed peas and crowder peas all have done fabulous. Greens (turnip, mustard, etc.) are great, too. Okra...wow. It loves the hot dry weather. We love fried okra and throw some in our Cajun gumbo, too. Your green house looks FABULOUS. Your entire place looks great! Good job, y'all!

to help block out the summer sun blazing in the green house making things so hot what about some old fashioned roller blinds up in the rafters, put a cup hook in the bottom and a hoop thing to the other side to hold it stretched out and up....just a suggestion, or just install a sail type of shade to keep the green house at a bearable temp. for the plants.

Had a full plant full f bugs I took the plant and burnt it ,so now I don’t get hardly any anymore ,so if your planing on doing gardening I’d get a big jar with a lid and stay diligent you will win eventually I promise! Good luck you two! Burn the plants if they are full of bugs or spiders ,this is just a suggestion I just know it worked for me! Any dish soap will work guys! 😊❤️

Hi I've just been reading about squash bugs, soapy water sprayed on or even a coffee grounds solution spray along with squashing eggs and the nymph stages and drowning adults in a pail of soapy water. It also said to maintain healthy plants with proper fertilising and watering as the bugs especially pick on weaker plants. The article also said to remove all dead leaves and stalks during the growing season and throughout the winter as the bugs hide out under rocks and dead leaves during the winter to survive the winter frosts and cold.. I know you put down a layer of dead leaves and then chop them in in the spring, maybe try not doing that for a season and see if that helps as they seem to be getting worse each year. I used to use a fine netting growing tunnel on my grow beds ( you can make them yourself to fit your beds or buy them) which once I'd sowed seeds or put in my young plants I put the nets up to help keep off those pesky bugs, carrot fly is a problem here in the UK. I hope some of this is helpful.... I love your greenhouse it is looking amazing and I can wait to see it once you have got it completed and start using it.
