Maboneng has become so dilapidated and it’s not what it used to be. Corporates used have year-end functions in Maboneng, brands used to host really cool parties in the area, and that doesn’t happen anymore. It used to be the place to be on the weekend. The market was always packed. That doesn’t exist anymore. What happened?!

David I'll be brutally honest. I stay around the area and the place has deteriorated compared to 8yrs back. Most of the business people closed shops and Somalians moved in, only a few places still have their original tenants. Yes it is dead, drugs are sold ,the local clientele has changed a lot and don't want name calling it is dirty and the music is so loud. Patrons are sometimes mugged which never happened before. But yes I'm one of those reclaiming our Joburg I'm not moving
@Ntombelar4sure-db2yl4 ай бұрын
Cleanliness, safety, and good customer care will make any business district thrive If we don't realize that especially us Africans if you are not careful criminals will make your business their playground pretending to be your clients remember one incident cant chase thousands of clients in these age of social media it's better to put measures in place to deal with any situation that may tarnish the image of the place.

I swear wherever non-SA Africans start moving in, it turns to a ghetto. Sad that so many don’t bring development and legit businesses into SA, just destruction. I think it’s because they mostly come from under developed countries so don’t know how to keep spaces clean and inviting

I am proud of these business people who took it upon themselves to clean their spaces for us to enjoy I hope all the businesses all over the country, especially in our black communities where we don't care about our environment, hope those who like to come to this place and litter on the street will stop because I don't what a point of buying liquor somewhere and come to drink it next to other businesses after that you leave your bottles and urinate on the street make it dirty I really don't those who are doing that what is their wish about the place and businesses who invested so much in this area it is really selfish.

Maboneng is not dead, I was just there two weeks back and had fun at Jojo, the only thing we need to work on with your assistance mbovu and the entire team, is the security more especially at night, the robing, cars that go around taking peoples phones at night, that one of the thing that pushes people away from visiting this beautiful part of the city. However besides this, work well done gents, I love it!!!!

Thank you Matomela for the feedback, and your practical suggestion. We will definitely escalate this to the business collective at the precinct. I went to view a property at living moad and parked in the street. To my anger a guy stood behind my car and peed right there.. I shouted at him. I love living moad apartments shame I wanted to do the Airbnb thingy ne but rubbish outside people urinating everywhere just turned me off.. Maboneng is not the same as before hence even the decline in property prices or values. The city needs to reinvest in Maboneng. Nightlife is still 👌

Also the xenophobia there is on another level. A Tswana and Pedi guy were attacked by Kwa Mai, for speaking to each other in English. The Zulu guy attacking them even called his friends and it almost turned into a big fight.

People complaining about Maboneng clearly don't know town. Maboneng is in town guys you will obviously get robbed, standard procedure. It's not good but it happens everywhere in joburg. Another problem is these businesses like to hire cheap labour(foreigners) which is a problem as there is a high unemployment rate in South Africa, if they can beef up security and hire South Africans that would be great.

kind of looks like its a patient in the emergency room, not dead but with some care from the doctors, it could light up again . Just dont see enough street vendors and artists on the sidewalk . I dont see advertising to draw people there , could do with some street lights strung up between the buildings over the street, like parades streets do. It should become like Burbon street South America, showing the flavours of south african art and culture in a modern safe aesthetic. The streets and sidewalks are the life blood while the jazz bars , restaurants and shops should be the main body , never ignore the life blood ,since there are so many artists that would book spots to show off there work if it didnt cost an arm and a leg, just create a queuing system and restaurant/pub/lounge owners just need to create a spot in front by their entrances for artists and vendors , with the deal that they sweep and pickup garbage and recommend people go into the bar/lounge and try out the food or a have a drink or look at the art etc...
