@Emmah Sawyer The AED also monitors for a heart beat to determine if a shock is needed. If you are touching the patient you could interfere with the machine and give it a false positive. Also, if a shock is advised it is an electrical current and if it is shocking the patient but you are touching them the shock may travel from their body into yours.

It’s important to also keep up to date with best CPR practices. For the first few years of my training breaths were still and aspect of CPR and now it’s just compressions. I wish they were able to use a training AED so people could have seen the steps and how simple it is to use. They really do talk to you and walk you through every step - even letting you know if one needs to continue compressions or if the person’s heart has returned to a normal rhythm. Honestly it’s pretty amazing.

As someone who had a quadruple bypass in February 2020 I can’t imagine not having my family with me. I got real lucky and left the hospital 3 days before it went i to lock down.

40+ years of doing childcare, I had to take CPR every year. I am thankful for that. I recommend everyone learn CPR/choking procedure, especially all parents! You never know when an emergency will occur.

Its something that when you have to do it on a living person, your outlook and life changes. My first time on a person was my first night on duty with EMS. She was the sister of a co worker at my other job.
