@BlissfulBluebell2 жыл бұрын
@@tiihtu2507 I'd say learning from scratch and learning another instrument are difficult in different ways. Trying to relearn and overwrite your habits and muscle memory is harder imo. Knew a guy that switched to cello and it took him a couple of years to stop using his violin techniques completely. I also tried playing a bit for fun and it just felt so strange and foreign. It's hard to ignore how wrong it felt to me. When you first start learning, it feels awkward and clumsy but that goes away with practice. With trying another instrument, your body can (not everyone ofc) physically reject the playing style and methods, especially on a similar instrument. If I had to say, it's like trying to play with your less dominant hand. It's difficult.

I thought those were kotos at first! Kotos are Japanese, but they are nearly identical. Apparently the only major difference is the string material, with the Guzheng using metal strings while the koto uses silk, or a certain kind of plastic strings. Almost everything else, from the string length to the tuning method is the same, and the playing method seem to be the same as well, to the point where a Koto player could easily play a Guzheng and vice versa. The information I did find on the koto did say that it originated in China, so it seems to me like the Koto was a decendent of the Guzheng.

Rainier Arts it could also be mistaken for the Korean one too , it’s called Gayageum (가야금)
@lindsaylee13074 жыл бұрын
My understanding is that the guzheng was originally Chinese and the Vietnamese (dan tranh), Japanese (koto) and Korean (kayageum) ones are descendants of it. The tunings/scales are a bit different, and playing techniques are also different because of the different types of finger picks. As for tuning method, I've been told that you need trained masters to tune a koto because it's apparently complicated. Whereas with the guzheng and dan tranh you can do it yourself.
@elegantfashion1604 жыл бұрын
The kanji (chinese character) of koto is literally 箏, which is pronounced "zheng" in mandarin chinese. "Gu" means ancient/old. So yeah, koto is a decendent of the Guzheng.
@AS-mo2nr4 жыл бұрын
Im a Guzheng player and no, koto is very different. While yes they are both zithers, koto has a completely different playing style, number of strings, and even the shape of the instrument is different. The most major thing is the Chinese music scale vs the Japanese music scale, which contain completely different notes. While yes, i would be able to pluck strings properly, even the finger picks are different in shape and i would still need a long time to learn, as it is intrinsically a different instrument altogether

It's funny to see the reactions of other people everytime after a performance whenever we go, "okay guys you can take out your nails" and you see everyone swirl around with looks of concern. Throwback to one time we were performing in a mall on the top level. That's the one chance you see a line of people wearing traditional chinese costumes and carrying one guzheng in hand with two stand in the other, slowly making their way up thru escalators.

As a former guzheng player in secondary sch and having performed 战台风, this is very very relatable hahaha here’s some tips: 1. to fix your ‘bad posture’, sit straight occupying 1/3 of the chair. you won’t be able to relax so you definitely won’t slouch or extend your feet (lol) 2. when your left hand is not in use, rest it on the un-pitched strings; you’ll be able to press it immediately for fa/ti 3. to prevent the ‘zzzt’ noise heard btwn notes (due to the pick), make sure your next pick movement is firm and swift like the coursing river 💪🏻 don’t hesitate. if you do, the ‘zzzt’ will be very obvious. 4. DONT WORRY ABOUT PICKS FLYING OFF OR YOUR HANDS GETTING STUCK IN THE STRINGS IT HAPPENS ALLLL THE TIME. happened to my friends, once, her pick flew out of the practice room. ikr. 5. WHAT SI THIS UNREALISTIC PRACTICE WE PRACTICE WITH THE MUSIC SCORE WHATISTHIS WHY IS THIS THR NO SHEET THR AINT EVEN THE 1235 STRIP AT THE SIDE ASDHSJSJD no wonder brett couldnt remember lmao Also here’s a full vid of 战台风 at normal speed: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYOraKqfZtl0mLs EDIT: asfddjsk I JUST REALISED HER SURNAME IS CHEN NOWONDER SHE LOOK SO FAMILIAR 陈老师 js that u???

depends on what instrument, some of them can be translated into staff but some can not. And yes most of the traditional chinese instruments have a unique musical notation.
@sk0111514 жыл бұрын
The traditional notation for chinese musical instruments is using numerical notation (ie 1 = do, 2 = re, etc) so it’s the concept of relative pitches. However, when you play in the chinese orchestra or study music in advance level, pieces will be using staff notation instead.
