Exactly the reason I couldn't live on a farm 😁 These animals have emotions, feelings, etc. just like we do. Pigs are especially SUPER smart, loveable, actually very clean. They can be potty trained. So many people have them as indoor pets. I get too attached to animals. Couldn't do it. Sorry Big Chungus! I feel for you. ❤

So we had a small family dairy farm... Only 117 acres. We kept a steer calf to fill our freezer with beef. 2 of my favorite ones were Storm and Charlie. As big as they were, they were so gentle. We could sit on them when they were laying down, and we'd pet them. Sometimes, Charlie would stand up with us on him and not throw us. I was just a teenager but always knew where they'd end up. Too many people don't know where their food comes from. We loved all of them. ❤

Ok no worries Kevin I adore you, but I get so happy and excited when Rachel is on the videos 😊 She's so pretty and is always happy. Now we had a ranch not a farm ( there is a difference) We raised APHA, AQHA horses. Now we did have a few of everything, mini pigs, chickens, goats, sheep etc. But ours were only pets. Now saying that.....I have no problem with folks who raise their livestock for food. And I will admit there's nothing better than fresh home grown meat and what not, especially knowing there's no chemicals in them. I love ya'lls videos and seeing all your critters. Thanks for another great video, and thanks for joining us Rachel, it was so nice seeing your beautiful smile. Cora you stay home now, ya hear?!?! Chicken coop looks great 😊. Big Chungus is chunky for sure - also very cute. I do love the fact that you love on your animals, even if they're destined for Freezer Camp in the end! They deserve to live their best life, for as long as they are allowed to. Apart from that, I guess it is also beneficial for the quality of the meat, if the animal is happy and not stressed out all the time.

Rachel, you did a very eloquent job explaining the realities of farming to the viewers who have lived their lives disconnected from the source of their food. So many people have become distant from nature, the cycles of life and death, that are an integral part of raising animals and food.

Well said Rachael. I will never understand how some people don't understand that small farms/farmers raising their own meats is way more humane than big ranches. I'm not saying big ranches don't care for their animals but when animals are mass produced there can't be time to show love and compassion as a small operation can. And Kevin any chicken would be proud to call the new chicken house a home. You definitely do need to build some shelves for stuff.😊

They are being loved, well fed, cared for, talked to every day. Their lives will be honored. They will nurture the family. Respecting and caring for the animals we eventually eat. It’s what homesteaders and farmers have done for a very long time. Blessings ❤ ~Linda

My uncle in Alabama raised hogs to butcher & trade to neighbors. My family was visiting him when I was young. I’d never seen one in real life so I asked to go outside to look at them. They came out later to find me chasing them around the pin. I got in trouble for running all their weight off costing him money. Ended up spending several summers visiting him. Years ago one of our Dobermans kept jumping the fence and running all over the neighborhood. We finally strung an electric fence wire across the top of the fence, and that did the trick. First time she reared up on the fence and it bit her on the nose was all it took to stop her from jumping over the fence anymore! After about a week, we didn't ever turn the electic fence on anymore. She learned her lesson and never wanted that mean fence to bite her again! Love the new pig. She has been well cared for looks like. I see lots of bacon and pork chops there!😘🥓

Brings back memories that’s when I was a teenager but I am 76 now, but still a country girl. My mom raised Hampshire pigs to put in the smokehouse, but mom would let her hogs get to around 500 pounds. We processed our hogs on Thanksgiving day, we usually put three in the smokehouse. mom would sell sugar cured hams at one dollar a pound and that was a big price in the 1960s. The middle sides were salted down and used for seasoning food and making bacon . The weather is not cold enough to do that now.
