We are living in an age of rapid technological advancement, and with this growth comes a digital divide. Professor Luciano Floridi of the Oxford Internet Institute / Oxford University believes that this divide not only affects our understanding of the implications of this new age, but also the organization of a fair society.
The Information Revolution has been transforming the global economy, with the majority of global GDP now relying on intangible goods, such as information-related services. This in turn has led to the generation of immense amounts of data, more than humanity has ever seen in its history. With 95% of this data being generated by the current generation, Professor Floridi believes that we are becoming overwhelmed by this data, and that our agency as humans is being eroded as a result.
According to Professor Floridi, the digital divide has caused a lack of balance between technological growth and our understanding of this growth. He believes that the infosphere is becoming polluted and the manifold of the infosphere is increasingly determined by technology and AI. Identifying, anticipating and resolving these problems has become essential, and Professor Floridi has dedicated his research to the Philosophy of Information, Philosophy of Technology and Digital Ethics.
We must equip ourselves with a viable philosophy of information to help us better understand and address the risks of this new information age. Professor Floridi is leading the charge, and his research on Digital Ethics, the Philosophy of Information and the Philosophy of Technology is helping us to better anticipate, identify and resolve problems caused by the digital divide.

Why say that? The opposite to self interest is socialism/communism/dictator. Never ever preach anything but self interest. No it is not phenomenal. I wrote to the Professor - "this part is complete nonsense : "self interest can only go so far" [link below]. So what is the other side? Communism. To heck with this European communism. I am in America - you do not do that nonsense, that evil against fellow man here. [2] Also all this evil talk about the environment . Who is that? Rocks ? Water? To heck with that. WE FOUGHT FOR INDEPENDENCE IN 1776 against the horror of socialism. "Green" is t "red" in a new color. With "red" you sacrifice your life for another person - not by choice but the devil of altruism, "force" by government. With "Green" is the same thing such as restricting human beings, shareholders, industry [euphemistically called 'regulations"] and then on top of that by weakening the industry STEALING from people [taxation]. Fantastic work and interview. Ioved the re-ontologisation perspective in particular when it's combined with the digital divide. I also really was inspired by the the shift between first to third order ontologies. The shift from man machine nature to computer robot car . Somewhere in that transition might be the potent opportunity of transitioning to more enlightened humans (at least this is what I hope we collectively aspire to do). And last, thank you for your amazing active listening skills and allowing the guest speak fully without interruption. Watched three episodes of your works and found so many good references for my own work. Keep producing great content.

I couldn't detect much in the way of philosophy here but there was plenty of epistemological arrogance and crass judgements, for example, 'you can't trust these pesky people who voted for Brexit'. At that point this discussion descended into petty politics.There are serious issues to be discussed but not by assuming that you are immune from the problems while the rest are too stupid to see the dangers.

The questions is simple and straightforward. How long can we allow a bunch of hyper rich guys deploy no matter what tech into society and let them keep the profits whereas society is left with the negative consequences? Remember that Hitler was a direct answer to the industrial Revolution. This attitude of "privatized profits socialized loses" needs to stop.

How is the chinese room argument of any use when you can replace the room easily with the brain? Replace the slit with sensory input, the handbook with the wiring of the brain and the activity of the agent inside the room with neuron activity. In the same way the argument demonstrates that the room has no understanding it demonstrates that the brain has no understanding. We wouldn't question the latter, would we?
