i remember back in ww2 when i was flying against baron rivendare. he was an ace pilot and wasn't afraid of anything. i, however, used my fighter pilot flight skills i learned from UND and successfully overcame my arch-nemesis. now all i know is ball and good.

@rev4life03 Yes, CFIs do. When I did a first solo, I got a wind endorsement(it's required in UND) that allows me to fly with 12kt total wind and 5kt crosswind component. And of course, that is safe I think. I'd been well trained to be confident to fly with those winds. There are four runways at grand forks and there are a lot of airports in our practice area so crosswind is not an issue.

@mohiJr You have to look at it from your perspective and the aircraft's. Do you think a CFI is going to sign a student off for a solo with winds as high as 10-15 KTS on a daily basis? Doubt it. Icing? You cannot fly in to known icing unless the aircraft is certified for it. Whats the max crosswind component for the aircraft you fly? I bet it gets pretty close..I agree, I live in NY, it does get cold here and I know it makes for better performance! Save your money, aviation degrees mean nothing.

@mohiJr The only problem is that North Dakota is FLAT. One thing I like about here in NY is that we learn mountain flying. Sure, the catskills/adirondacks are surely not the rocky mountains, but, you learn good decision making flying through, over and around them. It constantly keeps you as the PIC aware and thinking where to land in an emergency. UND seems like a good place but for the price, it is way overboard. They aren't THAT good.. We also get good class B/C experience flying through NYC.

Here we go with the people who are putting UND down and has no idea what they are taking about news flash airlines are starting to get very strict where you got your training from ATP is good and everything but it does not have nearly in their fleet as UND has. Once you got your hours in the airlines are also looking on what type of degree you got and this is the good thing it can be business engineering or A science it does not have to be Aviation and the person who just went thru ATP and nothing will have A harder time finding and keeping A job. UND and Embry Riddle actually helps each other put with funds and most students at UND took A online class thru Embry Riddle at some point so please for young pilots out their don't listen to the people putting down college down and just get flight hours.

@aviator147 that doesn't guarantee you a job, that MAYBE guarantees you an interview. Und is not the only one with bridge programs. ATP has a bridge program with Eagle.. 500 hours TT and 100 ME. Minimum..

@cashin1243 You haven't added books or dining costs in to that either. And since you went to UND for all of your licenses, how do you know that is the only route? Or the best route? Ok, Ill go with your numbers which are still WAY too high..What will a commercial license with 180 hours do for you? By the way my Part 141 FBO has an accelerated commercial course aswell. They arent tied with a university. I met plenty of people who are now CFII, King Air Pilots, LeerJet who went to universities.
@GalacticEmpireofMan
@GalacticEmpireofMan 11 жыл бұрын
As PilotRyan1533 has stated, they are all the same. The airlines, freight carriers and corporate operators don't really care where you got your training from, so long as you have a clean record (that is, no DWIs and criminal record), and a safe one also (no accidents and so forth).
@cashin1243
@cashin1243 13 жыл бұрын
@rev4life03 Why all the hate? If you're young and intend to make this a career UND or Riddle are the best places to start. FBO training is for hobbyists, not for someone fresh out of highschool intending to make a career out of this. And the price is actually pretty cheap compared to other schools. 60k a year? What are you crazy? that's the ENTIRE cost over a 4 year period. From Private to CFII.
@cashin1243
@cashin1243 13 жыл бұрын
@rev4life03 I'm a CFII....at an FBO. So when I say FBO's are a waste of time for young men/women who want to become career pilots, I mean it. I'm very familiar with the PTS and requirements for licensing. Which is why UND is awesome because the FAA gave UND special permission to issue commercial pilot certificates at 180 hours instead of the standard 250. Your numbers are completely off. UND stands for University of North Dakota, you knew that right? It's a public university.
@mohiJr

@rev4life03 People say the weather is terrible here so UND is not the best place to learn flying. I agree to some extent, but I believe we should get used to a bad weather so that we can make go-no go decision wisely. I wouldn't say here is the best place to learn flying. BUT I would say UND is one of the best places to learn flying.

@cashin1243 Also, Here is the tuition for the BS in aeronautics for Fall 2011 - $48,455 Times 4 for the 4 years there if you graduate on time = $193,820. I havent even added the flight costs in there. Embry Riddle is $54,835 Per Year Times 4 = $219,340 - Without the flying costs added in. Now you tell me whats crazy?
@mohiJr
@mohiJr 13 жыл бұрын
@rev4life03 dont you think that is the best place to learn flying? you can get used to bad weather. you should think positively. and cold means BETTER PERFORMANCE. actually its amazing to fly in winter.

Well, this is USA!! a University have a lot of Cessna's with G1000 to teach fly. Here in Brazil, for a flying club or flight school buy a simple biplace aircraft, used and old need something around 3 years to get the money. And the flight price for 1 hour, get an average of US$ 137 (in a simple Dolar conversion). Sometimes i'm shamed to be Brazilian...but someday will be better, i think...

Actually as it stands, 1500 hours--for EVERYONE. We will have to wait till next fall to see whether the FAA offers restricted ATPs. It's also in the best interests of ALL pilots that it stays so.

@rev4life03 how does 200,000 for a bachelors degree from a public university even make sense to you? Non-Resident Tuition: $15,845 for a full year. Or $60,000 For 4 years. If you're an idiot. But if you're a genius (like me) and declare residency. That cost will transform to $ 6,726 a year, or 26,000 for 4 years. As for flight costs? UND is very upfront about projected costs. The whole shebang will run you $62,088. That's Private pilot to CRJ sim costs.

@mohiJr A Wind Endorsement? Just more money to spend to earn something useless..12 knots is your max for that endorsement? If you have four runways to choose from then most likely it will be a direct headwind and should be higher in my opinion. To me, UND is just another money sucker, the amount of ratings i could earn in one year tuition at my local FBO can take me all the way to my CFI initial..and get me an associates degree at my local community college..

@rev4life03 Adding those two numbers, the total cost for a resident is $88,992. If you're a non resident the cost is still only $125,688. Far less than your...apparently made up space number or whatever it was. UND was the best decision I ever made, the only reason I have a job in this economy was because of my UND degree. The life of a pilot sucks, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. But for those that sill want to do it, the only way to go is UND. Anyone reading, don't listen to this chump.

@cashin1243 No hate, just the truth. FBO are NOT! for hobbyist they are cheap and you learn the same thing riddle or UND will teach you. Are you even a pilot? If you are, are you familiar with the PTS standards for licensing? Then you would know that they are the same no matter where you go to learn whether it is an FBO or Embry Riddle. Another thing, the airlines to give a hoot what degree you have or where you got it. They just want to know the amount of flight time you have. Do more research!

lol. How can you guys get sucked in so easily. This place is in NORTH DAKOTA. The flat lands cause high winds, the extreme cold causes icing and very low pressure levels, (low enough to not being able to fly. The kollsman altimeter can only go so low..). All that for 40-60K a year? What a laugh, have fun being in debt kids while im flying my C-172 in nice weather with no Debt.
