Hello 🙋‍♂️ from the Netherlands 🇳🇱 . you could also use a scare device by making the chicken coop fraem +pole and chicken wire de -pole which you lay flat on the ground or just 1cm under the ground as soon as a predator makes contact with the chicken coop + and the chicken wire - they get a shock. and then grab a heavy caliber shocker for cows or something and they will stay away if they survive at all . thanks for the video Andrew . I have a good fence energizer, I do like the idea of adding the coop to ground and a hot wire around it. I’ll need to make it portable as the chicken coop/tractors move every couple days! I’ll have to reconsider this! Thanks

I had a very similar problem last year and I added 1/4" hardware cloth around the sides and put out 10 rat spring-loaded rat traps around the perimeter. Problem solved but a few traps disappeared.....no more predator problems.

I took the wheels off the wheeled tractor last week because something squeezed through a 3” crack between the ground and bottom board and took a RIR chicken out with it. I ordered 3 new 10x20 steel pipe coops and I’m taking your recommendation for the hardware cloth. My flock is too small to take any more chances. Thanks for the recommendation!

The easier and better solution would have been to use hardware cloth on the bottom 3 feet all around the coop.

That doesn’t stop the other two that died of what I assume was heart attack from being stressed.
