I'm sure glad I was eating my homemade chicken noodle soup while watching you at the market. The tacos de barbecoa looked awesome. I love barbecoa. That's enough for me right there to want to live there - anywhere in Mexico where there is a thriving market with great food and I'm in! There used to be a great little Mexican restaurant on Henderson St, unknown to most gringos, where I had great gorditas. But the area is going "upscale" now and I'm sure the owners were made an offer they couldn't refuse for their property. I love the markets. For me, the markets are hard to come by in Monterrey. There were only some neighborhood pop-up markets two days a week, and they weren't much. I asked everybody and even tried to find one on the internet but nobody seemed to know of any. Finally I kind of stumbled into a big vegetable market in the "off" downtown area, but it still wasn't like these markets.
@OrlValdez7 жыл бұрын
Betty A There is a market in Downtown Mty, "Mercado Juárez", Have you heard about that market?
@BettyA7 жыл бұрын
Oh yes, I did go there, and did enjoy it. It's not as vibrant as the markets like in Oaxaca, but it is cool. I ate at the cabrito restaurant inside ( I have photos of it, lol). I actually walked from Mercado Juarez to the vegetable market (Meson Estrella) a few blocks over, and then back again and on to Macro Plaza and beyond to the cool shopping strip, all in one day. That was a LOT of walking. And yes, I'll go back again when I get the opportunity. Thanks for your reply. I love the great interactions here. You guys are great!
@19Cobre7 жыл бұрын
Orlando Avila Valdez Well I from Mty and I dont like mercado juarez, to be honest in Mty you cannot find a market, rarelly one... but there are many good restaurants in macroplaza and barrio antiguo, here is in Mty you can find a lot of carne asada and cabrito(sheep).

Barbacoa is one of my favorite dishes in the world, last Friday I went to the state of Hidalgo to get a whole lamb that we then enjoyed here in Querétaro, barbacoa is cooked in a special kind of oven which has the peculiarity to be on a hole dug in the ground, so I went and witnessed when they opened the “hoyo” and had the first tacos of barbacoa as they were setting our cooler to carry the rest of the lamb home.

my grandma (who is a tapatia) makes gorditas differently. its more of a thick, chubby tortilla patty (like a sope before it is pinched) she then fries it and tops it with frijoles, crema,& queso fresco and maybe some cabbage, onion, and a salsa

XergeDevil my mom is from Guanajuato and she learned how to make flour tortillas from my grandmother(my dads mom )and she was from Michoacán where my dad’s from, that whole part of Michoacán they make flour tortillas more Than corn ones. I love homemade flour tortillas!! But I love homemade corn one too, regardless Mexico is awesome be it Northern, Southern, Western and Eastern, or Central !! A little tortilla trivia: Flour tortillas are common where wheat is the main crop. In Sonora, for example, Flour tortillas are your first choice, then corn. Most everywhere the Corn/wheat crop ratio is reversed, as are the tortilla choices.
