I'm 65 now, going on 100... But I'm still listening to their music on my mp3, quite frequently. Psychedelic, rock, blues, love songs... The Monkees will always have their place in people's hearts, whether they are induced into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame or a star at Grauman's Chinese Theatre, or not. I used to want to be one of those guys, hey-hey we're The Monkees!!

The Monkees belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They outsold and outdid most of the acts already in the Hall. Who cares if they were a TV band. They were a band who did it all and more. Come on Hall, get it right.

They were only a TV band for the two years the show was on the air. After that they had much more control over their music, and played instruments on the albums. They DEFINITELY belong in the R&R HoF. There’s only two of them left. I want Micky and Mike to stand up there and accept for Davy and Peter too.

I'm glad I got to see them in my home city of Liverpool England back in May 2011. Rip Mike. Give Davy and Peter all our love ❤ Anyone on Twitter give Micky some love at this time. Without a doubt the most thorough, respectful and loving tribute to The Monkees of all the docs I've seen- more interviews with the key personnel; more music, rare footage, & attention to storyline than any US video I've ever seen. And with a deeply moving fan storyline underscoring it all- I LOVE those ladies! Historically, British youth have sustained the careers & relevance of US rock icons like Little Richard, Chuck Berry, The Beach Boys- for years after we abandoned them. Great job, guys!

The critics can say what they want-WHO CARES!!?? The best thing that ever happened was when they picked up their own instruments, dumped Kirshner, and took matters in their own hands. Their later records were just as good as their first ones(in spite of sales figures) and Monkeemania II (80's&90's) was just as good as Monkeemania 1-just very different!!

With the recent death of Mike Nesmith, it hits home with some of us "Boomers." They were were two years before my birth time of 1950. I'm seeing the exodus of my generation of the big brothers who made music history. We were well aware that it was a TV show, and none of us cared they supposedly couldn't play an instrument. The was a breakout from our father's WWII TV shows with Lawrence Welk playing WWII hits, or the country music heroes, that believe me, I DID notice and watched Johnny Cash and the Carter Family make legendary music in real time. Yeah, it was bubble gum music, we KNEW that, but we watched anyway. I was learning to play electric guitar, and that show had guitars and amps neither me nor my family could afford. Mike Nesmith was a real musician, and even then I could tell that because he didn't just "mime" the guitar parts, he made a point of playing the real chords on film, a secret code to us players, that he was giving us a message that. he wasn't a bought and sold commodity. I watched that show, but among us "heads," we would not admit that. How many people in our time even know what a "HEAD" WAS." A "head" was someone who smoked pot or had done LSD. What Hendrix meant by "are you experienced?" Like my WWII military Dad, we are now seeing the heroes of our generation, leaving the planet and we are next. The Monkees were commercialized versions of what we represented, which were the hate for war, the love of Peace and unity. Now we live in this horrible time when the idea of America has been destroyed by those who want us to live under a hateful dictatorship cult, and to destroy Democracy and turn us all against eachother, giving them total power over our lives. Am so glade my Dad isn't here to see where we are headed.....

It is 2021 Just after Mike Nesmith passed away. Peter followed Davy's passing. Micky is the last living member of the band. They mentioned in the video that the Monkees band was done but it was only missing one member Davy. But in future show his spirit was there. Even after Peter passed away they were doing shows. Mike & Micky has just finished some concerts it was only a few months after that Mike passed on. The Monkees live forever in the hearts of their fans. We are lucky to have their TV show and their music. That makes them live forever.

I agree totally with you. The Monkees should be in the Hall of Fame of Rock and Roll. So what how they first started, big deal, look what they have become? They are great and wish I could turn back the hands of time when I was 13 in 1966 and now 59, I still love them and always will. They kept on going and growing and they fooled everyone. If they do induct them, they better make sure Davy is mentiond and I hope Davy haunts them for taking so long. These guys deserve it. They worked their butts!

Proud the boys made it in the Hall of Fame after so many years and wish it was done when Davy was still with us but I know he was looking down so proud and I know he came down quickly to be there with his brothers. I will be 61 next month and I was a 13 year old Monkee fan right from the time the show aired to the last aired. Still to this day they have been my idols and always will be and my granddaughter who is 7 watches the dvds with me of the shows and sings with me the songs of the Monkees on the karaoke machine with me. 100's of songs from the 60's featured the same studio band (see the "Wrecking Crew") playing on the tracks, which were not the individuals on the album covers. Such was the case for The Association, Gary Lewis and the Playboys, The Marketts, etc. The Monkees "became" a band thanks to the show and the guys actually started playing their own instruments starting with the album "Headquarters".

Part of the soundtrack of my childhood. There wasn't one kid anywhere that wasn't a RABID Monkees fan, me included. Those four young guys connected with so many millions of us, and they still do to this day, and they are forever in our hearts. Little did they know, that they would last forever, and how special they really are. The music, and those voices, singing those songs, really mean something to so many of us. I'm being corny, but I don't care, because I still listen, and they are still giving me joy, every time I do. I sure love them. Rest In Peace Davy💐 Rest In Peace Peter💐..and thank you both. I wish that you guys were still here...and with all the spirit that you left us, it seems as though you still are. I watch the show on DVDs here in 2021, and your music is still vital, and alive, all around the world, and is still making people happy. @@scottsteel2395 A lovely heartfelt comment and sentiment about a great group/band. I was 69 last Friday and still love the Monkees, they were a great part of my mid teen years in particular. There is nothing corny about reminiscing as you have. It's good that we're still here to be able to look back and know how much they meant to us then and still do now, and so many others, over 50 years later.

@@bridgetdoman1386 Thank you for those very kind words Bridget. I turn 63 in Dec. Mike said in one of the documentaries about them.."I can't explain it". I think that I can. Sometimes, in this insane, chaotic, world, the stars are just in line, and something that is just meant to happen, does, and something MAGIC happens. Here , this group, that some people made fun of back then, are still making people smile, young, and old, and all in between. It should make them SO happy, that they DID achieve what they set out to achieve. They became forever a large part of a time that was very special, and they should know, that they DIDN'T turn out to be a joke. How many of us love them, and that what they did, and their music, left an everlasting IMPRINT, that has never faded, but has only grown stronger through time.✌❤🙉🙊🐵🙈

This was a group who knocked the Beatles out of the top spot on the chart at one point during the 60s run. Not only did they do that, but they outsold many of the legendary artists of that time who are in the ROH. The Monkees represent the culture, vibe, and history of one of the most influential decades of our time as much as any other group of iconic musical acts of the 60s. The intrinsic value of their medioric rise to become a pop culture phenom is in itself enough for them to garner admission. The fact that they had chart topping hits is the bonus that cements it. They did something no one has ever done before. They went from being manufactured tv story about a group to becoming a real chart topping act. Indeed and I say it again, pop culture icons. Not only is the tv show one of our classic gems, but their music still lives as a treasure to all who continue enjoy the nastalgia of the decade of change which is the 60s. Mickey, Mike, Davy and Peter. Four guys who for a half an hour every week entertained us with comedy and their voices. Four guys who became more than what was expected. Four musician/actors who became icons. Beloved by all, including the Beatles who gave their seal of approval long ago. That alone should say it all. As for the ROH, they only recently admitted the GoGo's. Like them or not the significance of the first all female self contained bands ommission by the ROH for so long tells you all you need to know. It's a total disgrace and a travesty that they have not been admitted yet. And now there is only one left. Let's pray that the one surviving member will be able to experience what his comrades never did and that he will get to carry the tourch lighting the way for the other 3 to see the honor, love and respect by an industry that they helped to make strong...

While my older sister couldn't get enough of Mickey, I loved Mike so much that I'd kiss the TV screen every time he was on. My mom would make me clean the lip prints off the screen. They did write some of them. They fought the producers for this.

The first time I've seen this and I have to say I am in awe I felt like for 46 minutes I was in a time travel back to the 60s and the 70s when I was a youngster and I was one of those underage teenagers like 9 10 years old between the monkeys and the Beatles and the British invasion and all the other groups in the United States I mean and then just making movies and making TV shows and you know it's what was for the time era and it was a great time for growing up in that nothing like old school hoping it will come back again but we have to make it happen life was great back then and I think every one of them monkeys every group every song everything movies had a great childhood growing up with all that and all that are gone now are you all rest in peace ☮️✝️🙏✌️🕊️❤️🎈🎈

A great one passed to day. Always thought the Ben Frank..type had something to do with the Ben Franklin/Granny type glasses Roger McGuinn of The Byrds wore at the time. Found out it had something to do with a restaurant/bar/hangout space in Los Angeles.

They were (and are) talented people. As far a changing music, no that would fall to a number of mis-sixties groups....but the Monkees did have a profound effect on TELEVISION.

As usual, their solo careers are glided over quickly as are the last years of the Monkees themselves. No mention of Peter leaving first then Mike and finally the last two calling it a day. It's like 1969 & 1970 never existed. Very common even in good Monkees documentaries.

I was a big fan. Still have all their LP's. Nesmith didn't tour with them when they started doing gigs again; I suppose it was probably because he didn't need the bread. After all, his mother invented the greatest office tool since the paper clip.......liquid paper! I heard that Jimi Hendrix opened for the Monkees once. Is this true?

Actually the reasons why Michael didn't initially tour with them weren't solely about his lack of need for money. In fact he was supposed to take part in the 1986 revival but his other work commitments didn't always permit him to take part.

I missed the whole experience because of my age and the TV show running at night. I did hear the tunes on the radio. later on 1969 i saw the re-run on saturdays with out new Colour TV that made a big difference from a B&W. But, in 1966 B.C. ( Before Cable) we only had two local channels and up to 3 New York State channels on a god day with our aerial and no bad weather.Wow , 1966 when all you pid for was the TV and the rest was free through the air.Now even Radio costs money and TV too.

I know, its insane that they're not in the hall. I mean even Elvis didn't write his own material. The bottom line is that the Monkees recorded a lot of timeless songs and sold a massive amount of records. That is more than many who are in the hall of fame.
