That's a Don McGovern "Sea Cat" as kitted by Berkeley Models in real old RC days-- 1954? A great beauty. Hats off to you guys. Keep 'em flying!

I like your finesse on the controls with that practice touch and go You hardly made contact with the surface.

As a young teen, I had a free flight model very similar to this. The fuselage, wing mount, and wings look identical. The engine mounted on the nose, and had no underwing pontoons. It was a Playboy Junior. We attached my buddy’s O&R 24 engine, filled the tank, fired it up, and I ran to hand-launch it. It lifted up off of my hand, leveled out, and flew a quarter of a mile . A thermal caught it, and it climbed. It continued climbing and circling in that thermal until it went out of sight. It may still be flying, for all I know. We never saw it again. And that was over 70 years ago! Courtesy of Half Vast Flying

Thanks for sharing. I hope it is still flying buddy 😆

That is so cool. I believe the Sea Cat was designed by Henry Struck. I have a kit, this could be the inspiration to build it.

I love everything RC, ever since I was a kid in the 70’s. Unfortunately when I was 8 in 1979 aa batteries were very expensive. Fast forward to 2024, I’m 53, on a fixed income, disabled, and the crap is still super expensive, but I do like watching the videos 😁👍🇺🇸

It looks very responsive even though it only seems to be a 3 channel aircraft. Lovely! Reminds me a bit of my Bird Of Time 2 channel soarer😊

Berkeley Sea Cat, originally flown free flight. Excellent conversion to RC and electric. On outerzone I think.

Yes, on Outerzone.

Cool! I recall the adverts in my older Model Airplane News I think. The name that sprung to mind was Privateer? I always liked the high aspect ratio wing/fuselarge and polyhedral wing. I must be great to be flying with RC. Thanks. Laurie. NZ. 😊
@johnnichol9412Ай бұрын
The Privateer had engine mounted on pylon on the wing, that in itself was mounted on the cabin. This is the Sea Cat from Berkely.
