I think the Dave idea isnt come realuzing due to impellers throwing airs throw the pad. It is good came if pad stand constant compressed by nipel. And the air from bottom of the pad are forcing throw the tubes from isolate impeller. Nipel may have ellectric trigging to accumulate and disaccumulate air from shortly from simple little air compressor. But the pad may be good if it has a constant airway pressure to specific riding faces.

TYCO used to make an rc hovercraft, they had dedicated vents in the bottom for the airflow to move under the skirt. The lift fan turned on the moment the power turned on and then it used dial rear fans for forward/back/turning. Later designs used a more powerful lift fan but the design was still very similar. You’ll find that with a longer chassis the stability is vastly improved over the shorter ones.

For the hovercraft I would put the lifting motor on a separate channel with an on/off switch so it always has lift and then decreasing the rearward thrust with the throttle wouldnt let the bag deflate.

Lifters and Thrusters, both projects are the lifters, the thrusters, the sensors, the software, all the electronics, all the decorations and behaviors. Would like to see the Iron Vulture autonomously fly a mission where it takes off, flies to a spot, hovers while something happens then it does another trick, flies home and lands. You could use the rock crawler garden. It could take a while, you have small craft to build that can to tricks too. My guess is: If it's 3 times as long as it is wide the roll sensor should read 1/3 of pitch or something like that.

I had built a hovercraft about 4 years ago, using parts from a old drone. I did not need to angle the thrust Motors out to the sides. Bc it was drone operation....it would lean into the corners automatically. Making for a very friendly user experience. Needless to say differential thrust worked very well.

Drain holes in skirt rear release any trapped water & airflow. I've built a 17 foot SEVTEC Hovercraft & if I ever finish the trailer I'll get it to the river. Love your show...Eric. (in Aussie ).

mmmkayyy... Might I interest you folks in an experiment, to settle a decades-long argument? It would be a hovercraft, scale-model of a heavy Panzer hovertank from David Drake's "Hammers Slammers" series. The debate concerns whether gimballed ducted fans venting directly into the plenum chamber would provide horizontal thrust when tilted. In the books, there are no external drive/pusher fans. Some (myself included) argue that the thrust/lift vectors of the individual fans will provide directional motion. Opponent opinion is that the pressure in the plenum will equalize and erase those vectors. For a full-up testbed, you would need eight ducted fans mounded in housings that seal fairly snugly to the plenum shell yet permit tilting on two axes. The fan blades would have to be airfoils, half spinning CW and half spinning CCW to avoid spinning the testbed as a reaction to motor spin. I figure a 1 : 10 scale would suffice. that would be 90cm L 50cm W and (including turret) 30cm tall. the fan diameters would be nominally 10cm at this scale. as it is to remain in close ground effect, it can be heavy and robust in construction. If you are not interested in such an experiment, could you instead tell me exactly what motors, fans, and electronic equipment I should purchase for the fans, gimbals, power cell, and control unit? I can fabricate the rest. thanks!
@michiganengineer86212 жыл бұрын
I'm thinking that the pressurized plenum will cancel MOST of the effect of the gimballed blowers. I could be wrong of course! You might need opening vents in the skirts to provide push in the direction you want to move, although that would also dump some of your lift air.
@gordonpromish92182 жыл бұрын
@@michiganengineer8621 - can't use vents and remain true to the fictional vehicle. (also: the plenum skirt is rigid steel in the books. the tank hulls are iridium castings. the mass is 170 metric tonnes. ridiculous fusion-powered monsters.) I've been in the theoretical back-n-forth on this topic for 30 years. motor, microprocessor, battery, and RC tech is now good enough and cheap enough and I have enough disposable income that it is time to just do it and see once and for all. I just don't know the first thing about the electronics. amusingly, Drake honestly does not care one bit whether the tech works. it just needed to sound good so he could set it, drop it into the milieu, and concentrate on the story.
@michiganengineer86212 жыл бұрын
@@gordonpromish9218 It's time to revisit that universe for me at least. I've always been fascinated by the hovertanks and the combat cars. Getting 8 ducted fans balanced would be a royal PITA since you couldn't really feed into a secondary plenum (think an airhockey table) like many more traditional hovercraft do and have that bleed into the skirted area.
@gordonpromish92182 жыл бұрын
@@michiganengineer8621 yes, the blowers use a direct plenum, so balancing may be a massive PITA. on the other hand... assuming fans in two columns of four, only the cornermost fans farthest from center mass need to be gimballed, the others can be fixed mountings. as this is not supposed to fly, and in fact will need to be kinda massive just to keep it from flipping like a tiddlywink, fan balance may not be as important as in a proper drone. the lateral movements are *supposed* to be "ponderous"
@brianjfsabo2 жыл бұрын
Have you thought about adding side fans so that when you're trying to turn it gives you an extra thrust in that direction?

The wing concept is not for lift but for forward flight controls. Ducted and or directional thrust is also a way of control. Festo made those flying manta rays and fish.
