We love making spiders for Halloween, but they’re always so hard to see in the dark… until now! The game Dungeon Hunter 6 is coming out soon, and features an awesome looking glowing scythe spider, so we decided we’re going to try to bring it to life. For the base of this DIY Halloween decoration, we’re going to use the Jumping Spider animatronic from Spirit Halloween and give it a makeover. Using some techniques that we learned from the world of DIY cosplay, we’ll build his shell and spikes out of EVA foam. Clear Easter eggs were used to create glowing orbs on his back, and clear UV resin made his eyes. We sculpted his details with foam clay and finally painted him with neon fluorescent paint that glows super bright using a UV black light.
We’re in love with how this Halloween animatronic makeover turned out! We took a Spirit Halloween animatronic from a floppy fuzzy spider to a pointy glowing green nightmare. We can’t wait to add him to our Halloween 2023 yard display and scare some unsuspecting trick-or-treaters with it.

I genuinely love so many of the crafts that you guys do, but, as a perpetual apartment dweller, there are so many that I simply can't replicate. It'd be super cool if you guys could do a video on easy, safe ways to makeover props- things that don't involve heat guns, spray paint, wood stain, contact cement, or anything else that needs special ventilation.The kind of stuff that people trapped in small apartments or who are trying to let their kids participate could do. I still love seeing how amazing the stuff can be if you have the space, though!!

First up check if their are any makerspaces around your area. They are basically a public workshop for crafters. If you can't find one (or dont want to) you can probably pretty safely utilize contact cement if you open a window and have a fan blowing near your workspace.

I have had good results making spider eyes and and such by cutting them from plastic bottles and spray painting the inside surface. It's a good reuse of waste, and I bet the same technique could be used for making bubbling liquid surfaces.

I have no idea if this will help anyone but when working with clear plastic that I want to shine light through and need to defuse I avoid sanding since it means plastic dust and once its done a mistake cant be undone. Instead, I will either glue in tissue paper or use a nailpolish top coat. The advantage of both of these is if I want, I can use a color version to help it work with the light for exactly the color I want, get patterns of color or a gradient. An added benefit is texture. Like with the buffer used in the video I can use either to add a bunch of texture and randomness, but if I want things more uniform, I can get that look too.

I have found that those neon paints are usually very thin and not opaque, so a little coat of white first really helps those colors POP. Awesome build ! Its always a treat seeing how you 2 are always improving.

You could connect the black light to the motion sensor, to make the color pop once it jumps. However that would make the cool details less visible while still. Maybe make the blacklight brighter once it jumps 🤔
