I don't even know where to start... you did EVERYTHING wrong. That center bolt is huge important. 2",3",4" aluminum blocks can he had at any auto parts store for like $40 quit this shit before you ruin your rear driveshaft by twisting the axle or it sliding back and best case you break the ujoint. The u bolts need to be straight and they are crushing the brake line. I did a better job on my first lift at 16. A full length add a leaf for the rear and spacers up front is the best way to go, I like rustysoffroad for xj parts

how was you able to weld to the hardend steel of the leafs? was always told leaf springs cant be welded..
@team_suv77785 жыл бұрын
chevyguy06 well when I was 16 I didn’t care what my weld looked like as long as it stuck the metals together and it was coil spring suspension I took and welded a square plate to the top of some tubing I cut 3 inches tall then welded the plate to the top of the coil spring everywhere the plate made contact and the tubing sat real nice in the spring perch then on the blazer I took and flipped the mounts on the rear axle so it would sit under the springs and I got right at 6 inches of lift so I looked up what the front lift kit had in it and took and made everything using cad design software that we had at a machine shop I worked at I also made a 4 inch lift kit for a 2006 Colorado my buddy had while I was working at that same machine shop

Without the center bolts the first time you catch traction while spinning in reverse(if you had rear shaft) your axle would slide back on the springs and jam into the gas tank and likely rip the brake lines and drop the shaft. Even if you had to just buy a long bolt and round the head to fit the spring perch and flatten 2 sides to get a wrench on to tighten it.

Why did you cut the centering pin off it is there for a reason to keep the leaf and axle from sliding by locking them together and lift blocks are tapered to set or keep pinion angle you need to get new leaf spring pins to make it safe regardless if you get proper lift blocks

why don't you guys try cutting strips from old tires and using those? they will give you the lift, but since they are primarily rubber they would have a tiiiiny bit of give, meaning you could really crank down the U bolts so theres no chance of them slipping out, and that little give might get you a tiny bit smoother ride. back when i was doing my first bit of mods i ordered a body lift kit, and i was pretty pissed when i realized it was just a bunch of plastic spacers i had paid like $40 for when i could of easily made my own for much cheaper, or even free. and a couple days later when i got the new tires i realized what an awesome opportunity i had missed also, i wouldn't be too worried about the lumber breaking, i mean, 2x4s make up a large portion of the structure of most houses, and you don't usually worry about the roof falling in on you
@richardpowell53695 жыл бұрын
No reason why they wouldn't work, as they are softwood they will deform, so you will need to keep tightening the U bolts . You would be better off with a hardwood like oak. Wood was and still is used in the manufacture of cars, Morgan cars are mostly made of wood, and old lorries used wooden brake blocks. However, I wouldn't use wooden leaf springs! You could raise the front by cutting a disc of hardwood and fitting it to the top of the coilovers, then coach bolt the wood under the strut turrets, now that would be a woodworking project.
