Love to see young people in the hobby. My wife and I had been doing this for many years and then took an extended break. We moved to AZ and thought we were done with the hobby. Then the mistake of going in to Petco 😅and next thing you know we’re walking out with the same tank as you only it’s a 60 gallon cube. We did get more involved with equipment but I’m sure our budget is a little bigger but for that size of tank that you have you are doing it exactly right! Main thing is to have fun with it and don’t argue over the tank and critters like we do. 😂 Good luck. We will be following your reefing journey. 😊

@@william4995-e8d I have 2 mushrooms in there right now and they are doing good some day and bad some days, I’m just letting it do its thing especially since I just re scared it. Also I didn’t use any Frits so I’m surprised this tank doesn’t have much algae

Oh man, it's so nice to share that hobby with your wife. I loved the vibe of the video and how the tank is turning out. I started a tank with my son years ago, but after 2 months he lost interest and I'm the only one doing all the work 🤣🤣

@@CoolWatchesOnly oh no😪 I’m afraid I may have been guilty of that when I was a kid with our family betta fish. So he could always come around 😂. And yeah she loves the reef tank we both just sit and stare into it it’s so relaxing.

Good to see others doing the same stuff with small tanks 😊 Btw. A small Group of neon gobies and or dwarf blennies seems to be a nice addition as well 😊

I love the look of neon gobies, but I heard they don’t live very long. Have you had good experience with them?

actually they do, do it in captivity .. you need a floating breeding box and keep them together for a few days or more, it takes a while to kick in
@william4995-e8dАй бұрын
@@jesusace83 Yeah! I’ve seen that strategy! But BTA (which is what I got) aren’t what oscellaris host in the wild so even that isn’t absolutely guaranteed. And a lot of the captive bred ones are silly and left to their own devices they’ll host wacky things like rocks, sand, and power heads. I’m still hoping mine go for the BTA but they spend a lot of time in the zoas.

Hey ! Love it… Planning to make a 5 Gallon reef aquarium. What do you recommend for maintenance and what do you do ? Do you dose anything? Do you feed your corals ? What wave maker do you recommend ( preferably cheap )?I m planning to do something like this: 5 Gallon Pico Reef Setup!KZbin · Barry's AquariumSep 8, 2021 What the ep.2 coming out ? @@MattiaDouin Hi! I’ll go over maintenance in more detail in the next episode but I don’t dose anything or target feed my corals! I do a 20% water change every 2 weeks. The only thing that I think would really benefit from dosing is the euphylia, but so far water changes seem to replenish the important minerals enough! I only have photosynthetic corals and anemone so while they benefit from feeding it’s not strictly necessary. in a small tank it’s very easy to overfeed and mess up your nutrient levels. I feed some of the anemones once a week but not the corals. In a nano reef patience and lack of interference is key. corals hate change so you want consistent lighting, flow, and nutrient levels. in a 5 gal tank dosing or feeding could very easily disrupt the balance if you aren’t careful. I recommend the hygger wave maker that I have linked in this video’s bio. It’s small, relatively inexpensive, and comes with a lot of control settings. If you want something even cheaper you can use a hang on the back filter or aquarium pump. The flow won’t be optimal since it will be consistent instead of random or pulsing, but it should be okay for soft corals and maybe even some LPS. Good luck!!! Happy reefing
