There's a big difference between cooking at home which is enjoyable and working as a chef where you're working 80+ hour weeks, working EVERY Friday and Saturday while all your friends are out having fun, working EVERY major holiday except for Christmas - including making everyone ELSE'S Thanksgiving nice while your family sits at home and eats without you, etc. I was a chef for 8 years before I started getting paid for graduate school. It is an absolutely shitty lifestyle and it's why almost everyone who works in the restaurant industry has an alcohol/drug habit.
