Each subsequent Vipassana gets easier, which is proof that the pain is connected to energy within the body. That energy is part of traumas, habits, things you're holding on to and connections to negative experiences and people. The key to the technique is constantly letting go and surrendering while watching with equanimity. Over time the heavy pains are released and subtler more sublime energy flows appear and you begin to feel lighter and freer.

@@brianlittrell797 It is, however it is important to do it the way Goenka teaches, starting off with Anapana breathing meditation and slowly moving through the steps to Vipassana. I wouldn't recommend jumping straight into Vipassana.

As a lifetime Buddhist practitioner, I recommend this 10-day Vipassana meditation just like you guys. I also attended the retreat a long time ago and I am a proponent for everyone to at least try it out. However, I would like to make one correction. Vipassana meditation practice (there are various forms, and Goenka's is one of them) is not the original meditation from the Buddha. The original teaching includes Samatha Vipassana. Samatha is the practice of cultivating the mind (using Anapanasati) to complete serenity (complete peace or no-mind) so we can gain Vipassana (Insight) into Reality (Impermanence and Non-Self). I just wanted to ensure people are informed with the correct information on Buddha-Dharma. Thanks for sharing the insights you gained from the retreat.

@@TheFioBros I just wanted to add that thinking on that it seems we do get to keep one thing, and this is what I put in my notes: Is the only thing you get to keep what you give? aka all the love you feel for helping someone. Also I've heard from NDEs and such that the only thing we get to keep when we die is the love we put into the world. Just curious what you all think and thank you for the comment!
@brianlittrell7972 күн бұрын
@@miket4092 It doesn't matter what you keep or have. It only matters what you ARE, and also what you are choosing to BE in any given moment. It is important to experience the kingdom of heaven within your own being. And what you are at the core never changes. You are always perfect peace, perfect love and perfect joy. You are always bliss and complete freedom. Those eternal attributes and qualities are your eternal nature and they can always be felt and experienced as long as nothing is blocking or distorting that from being felt. It definitely matters that we express what we are, our true nature, because that expression causes growth and when we grow that growth is permanent. All States of being and all states of consciousness are within you right now. Accessing them and experiencing them requires inner exploration. The keeping and the having of desirable external things and external experiences is a wonderful bonus. And are simply reflections of your Inner World and your intentions.

As a vipasssana, old student who has been practicing for 25 years, sitting 10-day and long courses, serving on courses and as a member of the management team and on a center trust its great to hear your discussion about your course experiences. Some of us old students get together on Sunday mornings at 10am on KZbin on a program called "The Servers Table". It's a podcast format but the concept is that we are continuing the conversations that happen every day in the servers dinning rooms all over the world. I can't imagine a more diverse and interesting group of people than the members of the vipassana community. Each center is a stand-alone trust run and funded by old students who volunteer their time and money to start and run these centers world-wide. Geonka taught his first course in India in 1969 and now there are two hundred centers. It is he purest form of democracy that I have ever encountered and it continues to grow.

BUT, the BENEFITS I got afterwards, OMG.... and SO, I returned for Course #2 the following year. EVEN BETTER!! (the results!) The MORE you put into it, the MORE RESULTS you will get. (Frankly, I was a pretty horrible student my 1st course!) ANYWAY, I want to say that it was my SIXTH course this past Summer that made me TRULY understand what I was doing, and I LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT! (first time). I can NOW sit and meditate for 2 hours without moving and LIKE it!! (it's a MIRACLE, bc I am one of those ppl that always had 500,000 thoughts going thru my head in like an Hour, much less a Day!) ....THANK YOU for sharing your experience! The one near Dallas, TX, is great too, but I think the Mass. center is more strict, and so you have a better foundation. My FAVORITE is the non-center in Fishkill, NY-- it's a Campground, but the NATURE IS OFF THE CHARTS. You literally FEEL like you are in HEAVEN. Nature all around you. The campsite is in the hills, surrounded by Forest. Incredible. I went last year (course #5) and this year (course #6). I can not wait to do my 7th course!!!

A sage had predicted that the king's son would become a big spiritual yogi and leave his familyand all belongings one day. Fearing, since his birth the king ensured that Siddharth doesnt get chance to see/feel any misery pain sadness...he went as far as putting sexy girls around and all sorts of pleasure to him. He was concealed from the process of aging and how old age comes with what kind of pains...Just one day when by mistake his driver took hijm outside the castle on Siddhartha persuasion. There for the first time he saw reality of life and was broken to the core..that day he just took a extreme concept that "Life is Dukka (Sorrow)"...and this runs in the teaching of buddhism as the main truth.

In 2006 I did a 21 day silent retreat in India at the Oneness University where I first heard of "your thoughts are not your thoughts". It was only years later that I came to realize that we all are constantly in communication with spirit (a.k.a. dead people) through our thoughts without knowing it. It's so far outside our frame of reference that we don't realize it. Thoughts, pictures, dreams, sensations, all originate from the group of spirits "guiding" us. They could be from one, two or three generations before us, but could also be those from our generation that died young.

However I still think before going to Goenka meditation at his Vipassana centres one should understand art of let go. For that there are places one can go and practice techniques related to that When you do that It is not a linear practice of 10, 20 or 60 days of vipassana ( that your ego brags about) It is just witnessing present.. practicing that till it becomes reality

Being a buddhist my self i haven’t tried these, mainly coz i think since our religion / the buddhist philosophy we follow doesnt have any rules, when we get distracted with our everyday things we forget that this the way to end the cycle of suffering, end the cycle of rebirth. Just to add a little bit more to what you were saying about Lord Buddha as prince siddhartha, he left his palace in search of an answer to end sufferings. He met many yogis along the way (hinduism and other yogi stuff were there before buddhism). He followed different methods that other yogis used to find the truth but he couldn’t, he went in extreme paths to meditate by without eating etc. but at the end he realized that middle path is the best way to do it. Thats when he reached this BO tree (this is considered as a sacred tree in Sri Lanka and can be seen in buddhist temples) sat under it and determined that he would keep meditating and that he would not get up until he reaches enlightenment. Thats how he reached enlightenment i think at the age of 36, and he knew he would not have a rebirth, he didnt have any desires/ attachments to anything and so much more. By the way, he is the 28th Lord Buddha that has been born in this world. Which means that anybody could be a buddha eventhough it could require a great determination that has to be there in our mind for millions of years that we would be born, and then die and be reborn again. Following Vipassana meditation will help normal ppl like us to atleast reach other levels which could give different results based on the level we reached, if enlightenment wasn’t attainable. All Lord Buddhas that has been there before Gauthama Buddha, has taught the same path, but their stories, birth places etc could be different. And the name of the next buddha will be “Maithree Buddha”. I think hes supposed to be born after the end of this Kali Yug (he should have been determined to be a buddha in all his past lives and being born to be a buddha will be his last life).

Whats a Buddhist?
@laknahakmanaarachchi25112 күн бұрын
@@shawnc318 just like how a person who follows Jesus / God is considered a Christian, a person who follows Lord Buddhas teachings is called a Buddhist 😒

The chant of the word “Buddho” basically refers to the “Buddha”, who is the “One who knows, the awakened ones, the enlightened ones”. Basically everyone has the potential to become a Buddha. Buddha is not a God, he was a human and the founder of Buddhism. He found the techniques, to liberate human from mental sufferings, through his own practice and realisation. Buddhism is the medicine for our mind and it was said that Gautama Buddha was the Grand master of all psychologists.And Vipassana meditation (insight meditation)was developed by him.

Hahaha thanks for the laugh. I did my first Vipassana 28 years ago? Age 17. It has played an important part in my growth in life and resilience to trauma. The whole experience is magnificent and hilarious and brutal and humbling all at once.

Step above it. Except everything as you deem it is. You change what is, by being indifferent to a new reality, not the one you observe. You must not wish it is different, but see it as being different already. Not easy, but doable with practice.

Lol. I’ve done two of these retreats 30 years ago and am only courageous enough to put myself it again at 51! I remember Goenka in his videos saying this “YA BUTAR: reality as it is, not as you’d like it to be” 😂
