It's our last day in Germany and we're making the most of it! We try some authentic German food at the Viktualienmarkt, explore Nymphenburg Palace, and do our best to take in the amazing architecture! The next day doesn't go as planned as we board 5 different trains & busses to get from Munich, Germany to Prague, Czechia (our 2nd country!). We try to recover quickly and end up staying the night in a Capsule Hotel in Prague!

When in doubt (even just a smidge) - ask people around you - 99.9% of the time they will be more than happy to point you in the right direction - been there, done that too! And if it's really confusing, pull out a map and look around bemused - you can (usually) tell who's going to really help and who might be trying to scam you - if what they say seems odd (or down-right fishy) say thanks (Danke) and ask someone who looks official - there are usually plenty of them about, and, at the train station (designed for efficiency, and, when I'm in a new country, efficient I am not!) if worst comes to worst wander towards the cab and ask the first person who shows up trying to stop you!

When travelling with Deutsche Bahn you have to be prepared for anything. They sometimes change the train number, shorten the train and you only get to know it if you use their app or are quite acquainted to their system and know how and where to find the respective information at the station. As foreigner it is often overwhelming and hard to adapt yourself to the way certain thinhs work in another country. I'm myself traveling quite often with Deutsche Bahn and what I learned so far is to plan0 some extra time and if possible take a direct train to you desired destination.

My hubby and I were in the exact same situation with the trains in Berlin. We did the opposite of you and got on the train that was at the station thinking it was sitting there waiting for us,and we ended up in Hanover instead of Amsterdam. Both us and the train staff were very confused 😂 We went to the ticketing office in Hanover station and they were kind enough to get us on the next train free of charge.

If u travel from Berlin to Amsterdam with Deutsche Bahn you should normally have a stop in Hannover, so u where still on the right track. :D

3:03 fun fact: the six big breweries share Viktualienmarkt. after the barrel from one brewery is empty (i think it's 200L), they use one from another brewery. so if you get a mug without a brewery's logo on it, you only know which beer you get by tasting it :)

@@JimmyandNatalie if you travel alot with long distance trains, you can get inter-rail tickets that should save you some money. Or you can do like I do. as a forigner living in a small town outside of cologne, my trainstation does not sell tickets for ICE trains, and i traveled to and from frankfurt airport every 2 weeks for a year. and just used the cheapest ticket i could find and blamed the rest on language barrier. the few times i got checked they got to flustered trying to speak english to correct me.

Never look for number to match in Trains… just look for the direction/destination displayed on the tracks and time that matches with your ticket (if its a reserved ticket). Thats all you need NOT to miss any more trains

Glad to see y'all are doing well, even though you had the train set back. It would confuse me, too. The palace grounds were beautiful! Is there a "curfew" when using hostels? I heard a comment about getting back in time. Looks like Canada missed you by sending some Canadian Geese to Germany 🇨🇦🦆 Thank you for sharing, we're loving your adventures! 👍😊❤️🐢

Thanks! Yeah it was super stressful in the moment but kind of funny to look back at now Haha 😄 And there's not necessarily a curfew but sometimes the public transportation will run on a slower schedule at night -- plus it was about an hour commute back to the hostel from the Palace so we didn't want to walking around in the dark for too long. And yes, it was cool to see the Geese here too! 😄 Glad you're having fun following along!

If you don´t have too much time and if you´re not sure whether it´s the right train or not, you can ask the DB stuff. In stations which offer long distance connections, there are always those peolple (in red I guess). Also, you would have been able to take the following ICE with your ticket, because your first train got in trouble and it really wasn´t your fault. Nice video :)

What a great video, we did not stay in any capsule rooms. While in France we got caught in the middle of a train strike, so be prepared and relax. One of the confusing things about transit over there is do you have an assigned seat? Sometimes yes sometimes no. Never be afraid to ask,

I do love love love the escalator rule. We need that in USA. Oh man, noway I could sleep in that coffin !!! It's got to be a chore just to manage the public transportation system to get around. I think I'd have to consider car rental but I have a feeling that would be a budget blower for sure. Ohh, and I have a friend here in USA that travels to Europe. Last trip, he got like 9 traffic citations in the mail from the car rental company. They use traffic cameras there and if you're speeding or in the wrong lanes etc, you get tickets in the mail. But maybe consider that van swap idea someday and that should eliminate the chore and expense of public transportation, however I also feel the public transportation, busses and trains etc, is part of the experience.

Another great vlog ..thank you. Munich's local train system (S-Bahn) is overstressed > mostly it works but you never know when it fails or delays For capsule hotels I would like to here some more of your experiences ... sufficient or too compressed, shared bathroom etc. Hope not all have these loud entry and the heating up. Bratwurst is in the roll, but Currywurst is usually eaten from the plate as the ketchup otherwise causes a mess. You can dip the roll into the ketchup on the plate of course.

Mistakes are what make traveling fun, in my opinion, and can lead to some spontaneous adventures. Your videos bring me back to the late 90's, when I was a young american soldier stationed in Germany and traveling around Europe (also on a budget, military pay isn't much) during my free time with my German girlfriend (now wife of 23 years). Back then we didn't have GPS or smartphones, so it was much more difficult to navigate and find out information about your surroundings, but it also seemed to be more adventurous. Now, 2.5 decades later, my wife and I live in the Bavarian Alps in Germany, 50km south of Munich, and we are "expert" travellers, haha. Just kidding, we still make mistakes, lol. Love your videos!

Something I'm noticing more and more (and I could be wrong, if so, my apologies) is, you both don't seem to be partaking in a very essential aspect of travel - that being, talking and fully embracing interacting with the locals and local culture. Unless of course you are editing those parts out (which would be lovely to see from time to time). I'm no expert and I am also trying to better myself though, I do know it can sometimes be scary to put yourself out there, especially with the added difficulty of a language barrier, but it can also be rewarding. And you seem like a thoughtful and sweet couple, you may find that energy reflected back to you out there. You guys are amazing and a look forward to more videos of your adventures. 😀👍

Guys, one day try do Germany on your own wheels, the Black Forest for one is amazing for a road trip. I saw my first eagle there. The “stops” on the autobahn are very good standard, with a Services which have good food, or just a picnic stop with just benches for a DIY lunch. The “wet sausages” are very good….Germans know how to make a good sausage.

Love your videos. Sorry you missed your connection but from my experience, the ticket to whatever destination is good for 24 hours whether or not if you miss a connection or get interrupted. Same thing happened to me several times and I just basically hop on the next train and continue on to my destination. Also, if you want to econonomise, don't buy food near highly touristed areas to avoid inflated tourist prices. And the currywurst is normally not made into a sandwich but eaten separately.
@eechauch5522
@eechauch5522 8 ай бұрын
Wether or not the ticket keeps being valid depends on the type of ticket and who’s at fault for missing the connection. Regional and local trains tickets are generally valid for the entire day. But on long distance trains, if you have the cheapest category of ticket („Sparpreis“ and „Supersparpreis“), you’re generally restricted to the specific train you booked and can only take another one, if you missed it because of an earlier train on the same ticket. On that day, with the cancelled S-Bahn, they could have probably argued this was the reason they missed their train and gotten a later connection for free. As a foreigner you could probably always ask nicely and hope for the best, but they don’t have to give you a new ticket if you just were late.

I think your problem was, that a lot of ICEs have two separate Trains. They split somewhere so the front train go the a different destination than the back Train. Deutsche Bahn at its best. Confusing travelers, being late or the trains don't even show up. Btw. from Munich to Prague there is a private Train Company called ALEX. Cheaper, faster, better. And even when you missed one of them you could take the next one without buying a new Ticket.@@JimmyandNatalie
