"We Need a Ceasefire": Author Viet Thanh Nguyen on Gaza & Israel's Dehumanization of Palestinians

Pulitzer Prize-winning author Viet Thanh Nguyen says a ceasefire is desperately needed in Gaza, where Israeli bombardment has killed more than 6,500 Palestinians since October 7. "Wars lead to an 'us vs. them' mentality: 'We are good, they are evil,'" he says. Nguyen is among more than 750 writers who signed an open letter calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, after which the 92NY, a major cultural institution in New York City, canceled his speaking engagement there.

But all these more than 75 years its Palestinians who are lviing under an appartied state that denies basic human rights to them and Israel was formed through force and violence and stealing someone's land. Golda Meir accepted that Palestine state was already formed before Israel and she is a Palestinian herself. U still don't agree to two state solution or one state solution and before Hamas there was PLO. What options does the Palestinians have other than Hamas or PLO. U never agreed to any of them and even one of the prime minister of Israel had to give up his life for the support of two state solution. Even Nethanyahu refused to accpet that two state solution is an possibility and prefers the Palestinians to move to jordan and leave all the land back to jews including Gaza and West Bank as it always belongs to them. And u r talking about Hamas thinks Israel didn’t deserve the most basic right, which is to live. Thats hilalrious and offensive!

As long as i know, a cease fire must be held by two sides. As long as you are asking only for Israel to stop, it's logically not going to stop, since the problem started because they did nothing while Hamas was moving.

And they did far more worse inhuman violations by starting the killing of children ,women civliians, in 10's of thousabnds; the mark that reached 30,000 till this date. It looks like they were waiting for a reason for this genocide. Before 9th October Palestinians were already living in an appartied state facing worse human rights violations. It didn't start from 9th October. Amnesty International has criticised IDF for snipping journalists, kids, para-medics and many more human rights activists. Thats why palestinains are resisting for so long as freedom fighters.
