Hey, I work in a camera shop and the 1200d is a great camera to start with. DSLR's give you a lot more versatility than a bridge, as you're able to buy lenses specialised for certain kinds of photography where a bridge has a fixed lens designed normally for zoom. For video go for Canon, and if you buy lenses always get EF lenses, as you'll always be able to use them as you upgrade. A good cheap lens to buy early is a 50mm f1.8 mkii, lovely aperture, great for video and portrait photography but won't break the bank. Hope that helps, and good luck.
