We need clothing and meals - reflect on impermanence

The Buddha said that the contemplation on impermanence and death is the king of contemplations. Insight into impermanence impacts our desire to accumulate more wealth, property, fame and so forth. Otherwise, we may end up saying, to paraphrase the great Jamgon Kongtrul Lodro Thaye, “Despite all my needs being met, I continued to desire to accumulate more and more, in that way, I wasted the the opportunity of my precious human birth.” Thus, the practice of “little needs, much contentment,” is highly recommended. Even the great renunciant yogi, Milarepa, was driven by the contemplation on impermanence to achieve all he did.
