Great video with a really helpful perspective on all of this. I’ve been following the QAnon Shaman story and the Norse Pagan community’s response to it, which has really seemed to highlight the divide within the community between those who are complicit in racism and those who actively speak out against it. What’s interesting though is that although this guy sounds like a new age quack and appropriates Norse symbolism for his white supremacist agenda, he’s also a Christian. From a scholarly standpoint (and from just being part of the witchy community) I’m really interested in what seems to be this increasing link between the alt right, Christianity, and the new age/wellness movement. I think you’re right that it has a lot to do with their reliance on a twisted view of history and “science” to back narcissistic claims to exceptionalism. Anyways thanks for making this video-conversations like this are really important!

If you are tolerant of intolerance....that’s called the Popper Paradox after Austrian philosopher Karl Popper. Popper lived through the Nazis and it profoundly shaped his work. I highly recommend reading up on the Popper Paradox. It explains a lot.

I called it the tolerance paradox and I wasn't aware of the more specific Popper Paradox. Thank you for the reference, I will check this out!

My best friend and I were just watching this video and I made a point that she said I should share. When you were talking about invented iconography and invented history, I immediately thought of ACTUAL Nazis, specifically Heinrich Himmler and the Ahnenerbe, the group of "scholars" who attempted to manipulate history and archeological finds as proof of this race of ubermensch, Aryans, that Germans were supposed to have descended from. All of it fantastical malarkey, of course. Malarkey given credence by the backing of the second in command of the Reich itself, Heinrich Himmler. I could go on and on but would really encourage people to read more about this because this is what we are facing now with these neo-fascists. They aren't well meaning. They aren't patriotic. They are treasonous and incredibly dangerous individuals who would, if given free reign, rip the very heart from Columbia and leave her lying in the gutter.

What I find wild is the almost mirroring of the lalaland woo individuals and the christian lalalanders. Like they seem to be wholly diametrically opposed theologically but have all the same undertones and attitudes and behaviours. *Sarcasm voice* It's almost as if dominating and abusing is a personality trait adapted to any faith!

Great video! I think I mostly agree with you, but regarding not labeling them as terrorists I'm not entirely sure yet. One of the things I've noticed (coming from a Dutch outsiders perspective) is that acts of violence by BIPOC is very quickly labeled as terrorism, while those of a white person aren't. Hearing politicians (Rep and Dem) call them terrorists/insurrectionists makes it more difficult for politicians to covertly go after their approval without looking bad in the eyes of a large other group of their constituency. It makes it more necessary to join in the denouncing and it stands out when they don't. (which is then still a facade, which may also not be preferable). But I agree that it plays into a persecution delusion, and also that it might further their believe that they are called terrorists because the deep state has now labelled them as such. So, you're kinda damned if you do, damned if you don't :(

Labeling these folks terrorists gives the FBI more $ resources $ to find and charge them. There is also evidence that a congressperson gave them a tour the day before the raid so it's going to be a lot to investigate. A lot of them are getting turned in by friends and family which I'm sure is wonderfully demeaning for the whole movement.
@kukiepukie3 жыл бұрын
@@SednaWoo Right, yeah that makes sense. And being turned in by friends and family is definitely demeaning! Good for them that they're not excusing this kind of behaviour just because they're family! Side note, thanks for speaking out about this! I've been more and more turned off by witchcraft because of the woo, and your content makes me feel like it's possible to be skeptical *and* be interested in witchcraft. **edit: I've mostly encountered massive amounts of woo, not blatant white supremacy (WS). So it's not like WS wouldn't be a turn off. Maybe I check out because of the woo so I don't even get to the WS. I'm also (maybe for that reason) only subscribed to you and Harmony Nice and you're both pretty cool and wholesome.

While the "Qanon shaman " seems to be a really bad joke. But I find the focus on the insurectionists as terrorists perhaps appropriate, I also find the utter dismissal of the riots,beatings,murders and destruction of businesses that went on for months rather hypocritical.
@SednaWoo3 жыл бұрын
The authorities should refer to these folks as terrorists for more resources prosecuting them, I agree. However, brining up other riots when I am specifically discussing white supremacists in new age spaces is whataboutism and not constructive to this conversation we are having.
@williamdewey95683 жыл бұрын
@@SednaWoo what specifically made the Qanon shaman racist though? Is it because he is on the right? Do we have evidence of him being a white supremacist? Believing conspiracy theories does not automatically equate to racism. Or am I missing something?
@SednaWoo3 жыл бұрын
@@williamdewey9568 I think the key to the puzzle that you are missing is that once you peel back the many layers of the qanon conspiracy you will find, at it's core, is antisemitism. It's not really surprising. The conspiracy that the rich and powerful Jewish people are drinking the blood of children for satanic rituals, known as blood liable, has been a thing since medieval times. It can get lost in the sauce because quanon is a tangled web of conspiracies but if you follow the threads, you eventually get back to blood liable.
@williamdewey95683 жыл бұрын
@@SednaWoo interesting considering that Qanon is linked with Trump and Trump did a lot to support Israel and also that his Daughter converted to Judaism when she married her husband.
@SednaWoo3 жыл бұрын
Why are you assuming a conspiracy theory would be logical? Compartmentalization is the name of the game. If you want to learn about it you can Google it. That would be a better use of your time then playing devil's advocate for quanon in my comments section.
